capacitor-uiscene-migration

capacitor-uiscene-migration is a skill for Claude Code from Cap-go/capgo-skills. It costs 208 tokens per session (2,613 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A migration guide for moving a Capacitor iOS app or plugin from the older AppDelegate startup system to Apple's newer UIScene system, which manages app windows and their life cycle.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for auditing AppDelegate code, SceneDelegate.swift, view-controller subclasses, and the Info.plist settings that describe app scenes.
Why use it?
It helps prepare projects for newer Capacitor and Xcode versions while finding custom startup, URL-handling, and window-management code that may need changes.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00208 $0.02613
Opus 5.5 $0.00083 $0.01045
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00042 $0.00523
Haiku 4.5 $0.00021 $0.00261

Security

Grade A, and why

capacitor-uiscene-migration scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 14d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Capacitor UIScene Migration (8.4 -> 8.5)

Capacitor 8.5 moved the iOS template to the UIScene lifecycle because Xcode 27 requires it. It shipped as a breaking minor, iOS only. The 8.5 core still runs the AppDelegate path, so bumping the dependency alone does not break an app; the app project must adopt scenes before it can build with Xcode 27 (and before Capacitor 9).

When to Use

TRIGGER when:

  • App is on @capacitor/ios 8.0-8.4, or on 8.5 without UIApplicationSceneManifest in Info.plist
  • Xcode 27 build or runtime warning "CLIENT OF UIKIT REQUIRES UPDATE: This process does not adopt UIScene lifecycle"
  • npx cap migrate printed UIScene migration: project is in a partial state ... Skipping automated migration
  • After adding a scene manifest: custom URL scheme, universal link, appUrlOpen, or AppDelegate applicationDidBecomeActive code stopped running
  • Build error on tmpWindow or TmpViewController after updating to 8.5
  • A plugin author asks whether their iOS code survives the scene lifecycle
  • Preparing a Capacitor 8 -> 9 upgrade from 8.4 or earlier

Do not use:

  • Capacitor 8 -> 9 package/native upgrade itself -> capacitor-app-upgrade-v8-to-v9 / capacitor-plugin-upgrade-v8-to-v9
  • Setting up deep links from scratch -> capacitor-deep-linking
  • Android (UIScene is iOS only)
  • Multi-window or resizable layout work beyond lifecycle adoption

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
