go-testing

go-testing is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from car12o/claude-workflows. It costs 52 tokens per session (1,150 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

Guidance for testing Go programs with Go's built-in testing package, including table-driven tests, subtests, mocks, benchmarks, and fuzzing. Fuzzing automatically tries many inputs to find unexpected failures.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when writing or reviewing Go tests, designing test coverage, adding benchmarks or fuzz tests, and checking test quality.
Why use it?
It provides consistent ways to test behavior and catch edge cases while keeping tests deterministic and easy to maintain.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00052 $0.01150
Opus 5 $0.00026 $0.00575
Sonnet 5 $0.00010 $0.00230
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00115

Security

Grade A, and why

go-testing scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Go Testing Patterns

Philosophy

  • Stdlib first — use testing by default; testify is an option, not a requirement
  • Table-driven — all tests use the table-driven pattern
  • Deterministic — consistent results, no shared state

Table-Driven Tests

func TestValidateEmail(t *testing.T) {
    tests := []struct {
        name  string
        email string
        err   error
    }{
        {name: "valid", email: "[email protected]", err: nil},
        {name: "missing @", email: "invalid", err: ErrInvalidEmail},
        {name: "empty", email: "", err: ErrEmptyEmail},
    }
    for _, tt := range tests {
        t.Run(tt.name, func(t *testing.T) {
            err := ValidateEmail(tt.email)
            if tt.err != nil {
                if !errors.Is(err, tt.err) {
                    t.Errorf("got %v, want %v", err, tt.err)
                }
                return
            }
            if err != nil {
                t.Errorf("unexpected error: %v", err)
            }
        })
    }
}

With testify (optional): assert.ErrorIs(t, err, tt.err) / assert.NoError(t, err)

Test Helpers

t.Helper()                      // points errors to caller's line
t.Cleanup(func() { db.Close() }) // runs after test, even on failure
dir := t.TempDir()              // auto-cleaned temp directory
t.Setenv("KEY", "val")          // auto-restored env var
ctx := t.Context() // cancelled when test ends (Go 1.24)
t.Chdir(t.TempDir()) // restores cwd after test (Go 1.24)

Mocking (hand-written default)

type mockRepo struct {
    getFunc func(ctx context.Context, id string) (*User, error)
    saveFunc func(ctx context.Context, u *User) error
}

func (m *mockRepo) GetByID(ctx context.Context, id string) (*User, error) {
    return m.getFunc(ctx, id)
}

func (m *mockRepo) Save(ctx context.Context, u *User) error {
    return m.saveFunc(ctx, u)
}

For complex mocking, testify/mock and gomock are options.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

go-testing is a skill published in the GitHub repository car12o/claude-workflows (2 stars, last pushed 6mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 52 tokens to every session and 1,150 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
