Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.
| Model | Per session | Once invoked |

Grade A, and why
search-shape-diagnosis scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Nothing flagged
None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.
How it starts
The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 367 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.
Federated search query-shape diagnosis
A federated search is a QUERY (or POST) whose query travels in the request body. Access logs carry method, URL, status and timing and never bodies — so without this channel a search load is legible only as a rate: how many ran and how long each took, with nothing about what any of them asked for.
boxel:search-shape closes that. One flat JSON line per _federated-search request, emitted from the single call site in packages/realm-server/handlers/handle-search.ts, defined in packages/runtime-common/search-shape.ts. It is the search sibling of client-perf-diagnosis (browser telemetry) and capture-perf-diagnosis (capture telemetry), and shares their emit convention.
The module header in search-shape.ts defines what each member means. This skill is about querying the channel and the ways a reasonable query returns a wrong number; where it touches a field's meaning it does so only far enough to explain the consequence, and points at the header for the rest.
Where the lines come from
Every line is emitted by the realm-server, so service="realm-server" is complete — there is no worker-side emission. One line per request that reaches the handler and parses a query, on every path that answers: a fresh compute, each cache outcome, a 304, the time-budget 408, and an escaping 500.
Three things emit nothing at all, and the third is the one that bites:
- a request whose query fails to parse (a malformed body, a bad field path) — it never became a search;
- a request
multiRealmAuthorizationrejects; - a search the admission gate sheds.
searchAdmission(packages/realm-server/middleware/index.ts) answers an over-ceiling search with a 429 before the handler runs, and logs it onrealm:search-admissioninstead.
That last one means this channel counts admitted searches, not arriving ones. Under exactly the saturation it exists to explain, the missing lines are the excess — so pair any spike with the shed count or you will read a ceiling as a plateau.
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

search-shape-diagnosis is a skill published in the GitHub repository cardstack/boxel (27 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 7,323 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-21.
