market-value

market-value is a skill for Claude Code from carsxe/carsxe-claude-plugin. It costs 49 tokens per session (312 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A vehicle-pricing lookup that uses a car’s VIN, a unique vehicle identification number, to request an estimated market value from the CarsXE service.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when someone wants to know what a car may be worth before buying or selling it, provided they have the VIN.
Why use it?
It avoids guessing a vehicle’s price or manually comparing listings. Optional location, mileage, and condition details can make the estimate more relevant.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00049 $0.00312
Opus 5 $0.00024 $0.00156
Sonnet 5 $0.00010 $0.00062
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00031

Security

Grade A, and why

market-value scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

When the user asks about a vehicle's price, worth, or market value and has a VIN:

  1. Ask if they want to provide optional parameters to refine the estimate:
    • state — US state code (e.g., CA, TX) for regional pricing
    • mileage — current mileage to adjust the value
    • condition — vehicle condition: excellent, clean, average, or rough
  2. Call the CarsXE Market Value API:
    GET https://api.carsxe.com/v2/marketvalue?key={CARSXE_API_KEY}&vin={VIN}&source=claude_plugin

    Append &state=<STATE>, &mileage=<MILEAGE>, and/or &condition=<CONDITION> if provided.
  3. Present the estimated market value clearly, including:
    • Current value estimate
    • Low / average / high range if available
    • Historical trend if available
  4. Provide helpful context (e.g., whether the value is strong for its age/mileage if that info is available).
  5. If the API key is missing, tell the user to set the CARSXE_API_KEY environment variable.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
