In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to add Inlay to a website, index the site, and expose page search, page retrieval, page listing, and site metadata tools.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00056 $0.01172
Opus 5.5 $0.00022 $0.00469
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00011 $0.00234
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00117

Security

Grade A, and why

setup-mcp-server scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Setup MCP Server Skill

Set up an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server for your website using Inlay. This lets AI agents like Claude, ChatGPT, and others interact with your site programmatically — searching pages, retrieving content, and using your site's functionality.

What is MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standard that lets AI agents connect to external tools and data sources. An MCP server for your website gives AI agents tools like:

  • get_site_info — Get site metadata and description
  • search_pages — Search your site's content
  • get_page_content — Retrieve specific page content
  • list_pages — Browse available pages

Workflow

Step 1: Sign Up for Inlay

  1. Go to inlay.dev
  2. Create an account
  3. Add your website (enter your domain)

Step 2: Install the Embed Script

Add the Inlay embed script to your site. This enables Inlay to index your content and serve it via MCP.

Next.js (App Router):

// app/layout.tsx
import Script from 'next/script'

export default function RootLayout({ children }) {
  return (
    <html>
      <body>
        {children}
        <Script
          src="https://cdn.inlay.dev/embed.js"
          data-site-id="YOUR_SITE_ID"
          strategy="afterInteractive"
        />
      </body>
    </html>
  )
}

Next.js (Pages Router):

// pages/_app.tsx
import Script from 'next/script'

export default function App({ Component, pageProps }) {
  return (
    <>
      <Component {...pageProps} />
      <Script
        src="https://cdn.inlay.dev/embed.js"
        data-site-id="YOUR_SITE_ID"
        strategy="afterInteractive"
      />
    </>
  )
}

Astro:

<!-- src/layouts/Base.astro -->
<script src="https://cdn.inlay.dev/embed.js" data-site-id="YOUR_SITE_ID"></script>

Plain HTML:

<script src="https://cdn.inlay.dev/embed.js" data-site-id="YOUR_SITE_ID"></script>

Replace YOUR_SITE_ID with the Site ID from your Inlay dashboard.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
