pagination

pagination is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from cass-2003/local-workflow-skill. It costs 138 tokens per session (2,423 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide to returning large lists of records in smaller pages. It explains offset pages, which use a position and size, and cursor pages, which continue from the last item returned.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to design list APIs, feeds, infinite scrolling, GraphQL connections, and database queries for large tables or search indexes.
Why use it?
It helps avoid slow deep pages and prevents missing or repeating records when data changes while someone is paging through a list.

One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00138 $0.02423
Opus 5 $0.00069 $0.01211
Sonnet 5 $0.00028 $0.00485
Haiku 4.5 $0.00014 $0.00242

Security

Grade A, and why

pagination scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Pagination Skill —

  • 设计 list API(任何返回多条记录的端点)
UI(feed / timeline)
  • Elasticsearch / Mongo
  • GraphQL connection

Offset/Limit(最熟悉,但坑最多)

GET /users?offset=0&limit=20
GET /users?page=1&page_size=20

Cursor(推荐用于 feed / 大数据集)

GET /users?cursor=eyJpZCI6MTIzNDV9&limit=20

SELECT * FROM users ORDER BY id LIMIT 20

SELECT * FROM users WHERE id > $cursor ORDER BY id LIMIT 20

cursor = 最后一条的 id(base64 编码后给客户端)。

2. 复合键 cursor(按时间倒序)

SELECT * FROM posts
WHERE (created_at, id) < ($cursor_ts, $cursor_id)
ORDER BY created_at DESC, id DESC
LIMIT 20

3. cursor 编码

// 服务端
function encodeCursor(row) {
  return Buffer.from(JSON.stringify({
    ts: row.created_at.toISOString(),
    id: row.id,
  })).toString('base64url')
}

function decodeCursor(s) {
  return JSON.parse(Buffer.from(s, 'base64url').toString('utf8'))
}

const cursor = base64({ ts, id, sig: hmac(ts + id, secret) })

GET /posts?after=cursor1&limit=20    # 下一页
GET /posts?before=cursor1&limit=20   # 上一页
-- after
WHERE (ts, id) < ($after.ts, $after.id) ORDER BY ts DESC, id DESC

-- before(注意结果集要再反转)
WHERE (ts, id) > ($before.ts, $before.id) ORDER BY ts ASC, id ASC
-- 然后 reverse() 给客户端

三、Keyset Pagination(SQL 索引利用)

-- ❌ OFFSET 慢
SELECT * FROM users ORDER BY created_at DESC OFFSET 100000 LIMIT 20;
-- 扫 100020 行丢弃 100000

-- ✅ Keyset(cursor 模式)
SELECT * FROM users
WHERE (created_at, id) < ('2024-01-01', 12345)
ORDER BY created_at DESC, id DESC
LIMIT 20;
-- 利用 (created_at, id) 索引直接 seek 到位置,扫 20 行

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

pagination is a skill published in the GitHub repository cass-2003/local-workflow-skill (12 stars, last pushed 2mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 138 tokens to every session and 2,423 once invoked, about $0.0007 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
