anserini-fatjar

anserini-fatjar is a skill for Codex from castorini/castorini-skills. It costs 48 tokens per session (3,131 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A setup guide for Anserini, an information-retrieval toolkit, that downloads its ready-to-run Java package from Maven Central instead of compiling the project.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to check Java and download prerequisites, fetch the latest fat JAR, run smoke tests, reproduce the CACM example, inspect catalogs, use the Search CLI, or start RestServer.
Why use it?
It avoids a full Maven build when you need to install Anserini quickly and verify that it runs.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00048 $0.03131
Opus 5 $0.00024 $0.01566
Sonnet 5 $0.00010 $0.00626
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00313

Security

Grade A, and why

anserini-fatjar scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 2 executable files (scripts/fetch_latest_fatjar.sh, scripts/verify_fatjar_workflow.sh), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Not a fault in itself. Listed so you know the mod talks to something, and to what.

Anserini Fatjar

Overview

Use this skill to install and run Anserini quickly by downloading the latest fatjar from Maven Central into the current working directory.

Validation note:

  • Validated on 2026-03-27 against anserini-1.7.1-fatjar.jar
  • Verified locally: fatjar download, cacm-download reproduction, catalog lookups, Search CLI, and RestServer

Workflow

  1. Verify runtime tools.
  2. Download the latest fatjar from Maven Central.
  3. Run smoke test/help command.
  4. Execute target commands.

For a reusable end-to-end check of the documented workflow, run:

SKILL_DIR="/path/to/anserini-fatjar"
bash "$SKILL_DIR/scripts/verify_fatjar_workflow.sh"

1. Verify Runtime Tools

Run:

java -version
javac -version
wget --version

Require:

  • JDK 21 available on PATH for both java and javac
  • wget available on PATH
  • Optional: jq available on PATH for JSON filtering commands below

Stop immediately and warn the user if prerequisites are not satisfied. In particular:

  • If java -version or javac -version does not report JDK 21, do not continue.
  • If wget is missing, do not continue with Maven Central download steps.
  • If jq is missing, continue only when JSON filtering is unnecessary or replace those examples with an equivalent plain-text inspection.

2. Download Latest Fatjar

From the skill directory, run:

SKILL_DIR="/path/to/anserini-fatjar"
bash "$SKILL_DIR/scripts/fetch_latest_fatjar.sh"

This script probes Maven Central metadata at https://repo1.maven.org/maven2/io/anserini/anserini/maven-metadata.xml, extracts the current release, and downloads anserini-<version>-fatjar.jar from the matching official artifact path. At the moment, a direct example URL is:

wget https://repo1.maven.org/maven2/io/anserini/anserini/1.7.1/anserini-1.7.1-fatjar.jar

All subsequent commands assume the jar is available in the current working directory as anserini-<version>-fatjar.jar. Resolve the filename dynamically before invoking Java:

What ships with it

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
