helpers: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/figure.create_tikz/SKILL.md

figure.create_tikz is a skill for Claude Code from causify-ai/helpers. It costs 11 tokens per session (856 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A TikZ and LaTeX figure generator that turns an image or written description into compilable diagram code. TikZ is a LaTeX system for creating diagrams that can be included in technical documents.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for publication figures, flowcharts, structural diagrams, plots, or diagrams made for LaTeX documents.
Why use it?
It makes diagrams reproducible as source code instead of relying on a hand-edited image. It also renders the result so you can inspect the generated figure.

Skill for Claude Code

Written for Claude Code: installed under .claude/. Also seen: model in frontmatter; reads .claude/ paths.

This is causify-ai/helpers's own configuration. It tells Claude Code how to work on helpers itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything helpers configures →

Needs its repository: it runs a file that does not travel with it, so clone the repository first. The line is > ./helpers_root/dev_scripts_helpers/dockerize/dockerized_tikz_to_bitmap.py \.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00011 $0.00856
Opus 5.5 $0.00004 $0.00342
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00002 $0.00171
Haiku 4.5 $0.00001 $0.00086

Security

Grade A, and why

figure.create_tikz scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 114 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Goal

  • Convert images or textual descriptions into publication-quality TikZ LaTeX code
  • Generate a compilable LaTeX file, render it to PNG, and iteratively refine the output to match the input precisely

When to Use

  • Use this skill when you need to:
    • Create publication-quality diagrams, plots, or visualizations
    • Convert hand-drawn sketches or existing images into reproducible TikZ code
    • Generate diagrams for inclusion in LaTeX documents

When NOT to Use

  • Do not use this skill for:
    • Complex photographs requiring photorealistic rendering
    • Plots from large datasets (use dedicated plotting libraries instead)
    • Diagrams requiring advanced 3D visualization

Workflow

Receive and Understand the Input

  • You receive either:
    1. An image of a diagram
    2. A textual description of a concept or situation

Choose Figure Type

  • Pick the diagram structure that fits the input:
    • FLOWCHART: sequential steps, decision branches, pipelines
    • STRUCTURAL: containment (things inside other things), architecture
    • ILLUSTRATIVE: plots, physical cross-sections, or abstract spatial metaphors

Generate TikZ Code

  • Generate valid LaTeX code using the TikZ package. Wrap the code in a complete minimal working example:
    \documentclass{standalone}
    \usepackage{tikz}
    \begin{document}
    \begin{tikzpicture}
    ...
    \end{tikzpicture}
    \end{document}

Preserve layout accurately

  • If converting from an image <IMAGE>, reproduce the layout precisely
  • Preserve proportions, relative positions, and symmetry
  • Use coordinates and scaling where appropriate
  • Approximate complex curves with TikZ paths when needed

Follow the TikZ conventions

  • Generate the diagram using the conventions from .claude/skills/tikz.rules.md
  • Key sections to follow: Colors, Typography, Layout, Reusable Patterns, Polish

Handle ambiguity

  • Make reasonable assumptions about unclear inputs
  • Prioritize clarity and visual correctness over perfection

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

figure.create_tikz is a skill published in the GitHub repository causify-ai/helpers (150 stars, last pushed today), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 11 tokens to every session and 856 once invoked, about $0.0000 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-13.
