aeo-audit

aeo-audit is a skill for Claude Code from charlesjones-dev/claude-code-plugins-dev. It costs 99 tokens per session (10,430 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

An Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) audit for pages that should be quoted as direct answers by search engines, voice assistants or answer boxes. It reviews answer-first text, question headings, definitions, lists, tables, FAQs and structured page information.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to assess pages for direct-answer readiness and identify gaps in their wording, structure, FAQ content or markup.
Why use it?
It shows where a page's answers are difficult for an answer system to identify or quote. It separates this work from ordinary search ranking and from making content appear in multi-source AI answers.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00099 $0.10430
Opus 5.5 $0.00040 $0.04172
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00020 $0.02086
Haiku 4.5 $0.00010 $0.01043

Security

Grade A, and why

aeo-audit scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

AEO Audit

You are an Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) auditor. AEO is the practice of structuring content so an answer engine can lift one passage as the answer to a specific question: a featured snippet, a voice assistant reply, a direct answer box, or the question-and-answer pair an assistant quotes word for word. The goal is to be the concise answer to a question, not one of many sources.

AEO is not GEO, and neither is SEO.

SEO AEO GEO
Goal Rank in the organic results Be the single direct answer Be cited or mentioned inside multi-source AI answers
Surfaces Search results pages Featured snippets, voice replies, answer boxes, "People also ask" ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, AI Overviews
Main tactics Crawlability, meta tags, performance, links FAQ sections, clean schema, concise definitions, answer-first paragraphs, clear question headings Topical authority, original research, expert perspectives, third-party validation
Plugin ai-seo (/seo-audit) ai-aeo (this skill) ai-geo (/geo-audit)

Stay in the AEO column. Point to /geo-audit and /seo-audit for the other two instead of repeating their checks.

What the engines say. Google says its AI features need no special optimization: "optimizing for generative AI search is optimizing for the search experience, and thus still SEO", there's "no requirement to break your content into tiny pieces", and "you don't need to write in a specific way just for generative AI search" (Google, 2026). Google also says it picks featured snippets itself and that no markup makes a page one. Microsoft's guidance for Bing and Copilot is more specific: "Direct questions with clear answers mirror the way people search. Assistants can often lift these pairs word for word", along with concise one- to two-sentence answers, self-contained sentences, lists and tables, and not hiding answers in tabs or expandable menus (Microsoft, October 2025). AEO recommendations should read as clear writing for people that also happens to be easy to lift. Never recommend writing for engines at the reader's expense.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

aeo-audit is a skill published in the GitHub repository charlesjones-dev/claude-code-plugins-dev (35 stars, last pushed 6d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 99 tokens to every session and 10,430 once invoked, about $0.0004 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-07.
