cx-devassist-secrets

cx-devassist-secrets is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Checkmarx/cx-agentic-ai. It costs 193 tokens per session (4,561 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A Checkmarx-based scanner and fixer for hardcoded secrets such as passwords, access tokens, credentials, and keys in files. Checkmarx is a security analysis service for finding weaknesses in software.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to scan a file for embedded secrets, or to remediate findings from a scan or file-write check and verify the result again.
Why use it?
It helps catch sensitive values before they are left in source code or configuration. It also separates secret checks from scans for code vulnerabilities, dependencies, or infrastructure files.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00193 $0.04561
Opus 5.5 $0.00077 $0.01824
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00039 $0.00912
Haiku 4.5 $0.00019 $0.00456

Security

Grade A, and why

cx-devassist-secrets scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

CX DevAssist Secrets

Detects and remediates hardcoded secrets using Checkmarx secret realtime scanning.

When to Use

This skill has two entry points:

  1. On-demand scan — User asks to scan a file for hardcoded secrets, credentials, tokens, or keys (e.g., "scan this file for secrets", "check .env.example"). If the target is source code for vulnerabilities use cx-devassist-asca; a dependency manifest/lockfile use cx-devassist-sca; an IaC file use cx-devassist-kics.
  2. Remediation — User asks to fix secret findings, or GitHub Copilot CLI (copilot-agent) needs to fix a secret detected by the file-write hook.

If secret findings are already present in context (a hook deny or a prior scan result), skip Flow 1 entirely and proceed directly to Flow 2 using those findings. Do not run the initial scan; Flow 2's re-scan still applies.

Routing — which Checkmarx capability to use

Pick by the target, and ask if it is ambiguous:

The user wants to scan… Use
A file for hardcoded secrets, credentials, tokens, or keys (any file except a dependency manifest) this skill
A source code file (.py, .js, .java, .go, .ts, …) for code vulnerabilities cx-devassist-asca (SAST)
A dependency manifest / lockfile (package.json, requirements.txt, go.mod, pom.xml, …) cx-devassist-sca (SCA/OSS)
An IaC file (Dockerfile, *.tf, *.yaml/*.yml, …) for infrastructure misconfigurations cx-devassist-kics (IaC)
An entire project / repository at cloud scale, or existing platform scan results the Checkmarx MCP (Cx1 cloud) tools

A bare "scan this file" refers to whatever file is in context: hardcoded secrets → this skill; source code → cx-devassist-asca; a manifest/lockfile → cx-devassist-sca; an IaC file → cx-devassist-kics. If it is unclear which, ask the user. The secret engine scans every file except dependency manifests, anything under node_modules, and the Checkmarx ignore files under .vscode/.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

cx-devassist-secrets is a skill published in the GitHub repository Checkmarx/cx-agentic-ai (0 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 193 tokens to every session and 4,561 once invoked, about $0.0008 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-23.
