defuddle

defuddle is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from CHENyiru3/AI-Skills-Collections. It costs 74 tokens per session (281 once invoked), scanned A, a copy of defuddle, MIT.

A command-line tool workflow for extracting readable Markdown from ordinary web pages. It removes page navigation, advertisements, and other clutter before returning the text or selected page details.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to fetch documentation, articles, blog posts, or other web pages as Markdown, save the result to a file, or retrieve metadata such as a title or domain.
Why use it?
It makes web pages easier to read or analyse and reduces irrelevant content in an AI assistant's input. It is intended for standard web pages rather than URLs that already point to Markdown files.

Getting it into your agent

One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00074 $0.00281
Opus 5.5 $0.00030 $0.00112
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00015 $0.00056
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00028

Security

Grade A, and why

defuddle scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Defuddle

Use Defuddle CLI to extract clean readable content from web pages. Prefer over WebFetch for standard web pages — it removes navigation, ads, and clutter, reducing token usage.

If not installed: npm install -g defuddle

Usage

Always use --md for markdown output:

defuddle parse <url> --md

Save to file:

defuddle parse <url> --md -o content.md

Extract specific metadata:

defuddle parse <url> -p title
defuddle parse <url> -p description
defuddle parse <url> -p domain

Output formats

Flag Format
--md Markdown (default choice)
--json JSON with both HTML and markdown
(none) HTML
-p <name> Specific metadata property
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
