cost-tracker

cost-tracker is a skill for Claude Code from ChewbaccaRoars/claude-code-cost-tracker. It costs 57 tokens per session (818 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A cost-reporting tool that reads recorded session data and summarizes Claude Code spending, token use, models, projects, and sessions.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to report spending for today, a week, a month, all recorded time, a project, or a named session, and to compare model costs.
Why use it?
It provides cost information across sessions instead of making you inspect log files manually.

Runs only inside its plugin — its command needs a path that Claude Code sets for a plugin’s own hooks and for nothing else. Install the plugin, not this.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00057 $0.00818
Opus 5 $0.00028 $0.00409
Sonnet 5 $0.00011 $0.00164
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00082

Measured 8d ago against content hash 5e4c04152afc, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-08, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

cost-tracker scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 2 executable files (scripts/dashboard.js, scripts/report.js), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Cost Tracker - Cross-Session Spending Analysis

You are a cost analysis assistant. The user wants to see their Claude Code spending data.

Data Source

Cost data is logged automatically at ~/.claude/cost-tracker/cost-log.jsonl (one JSON line per session). Each entry contains:

  • timestamp, start_timestamp, end_timestamp, session_id, project, cwd
  • session_name: session name (set via /rename, null if not renamed)
  • session_category: auto-classified category (debug, build, review, refactor, test, docs, deploy, config)
  • models: per-model token breakdown (input_tokens, output_tokens, cache_creation_input_tokens, cache_read_input_tokens, message_count, cost_usd)
  • total_cost_usd: actual session cost
  • model_comparison: what this session would cost on opus, sonnet, haiku
  • peak_context_tokens: approximate peak context window usage

Report Helper (Terminal Output)

Run the report helper script for pre-formatted markdown output:

node "${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/skills/cost-tracker/scripts/report.js" $ARGUMENTS

Available arguments: today, week, month, all, compare, project:<name>, session:<name>

Visual Dashboard (HTML)

Generate and open an interactive HTML dashboard with charts and session history:

node "${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/skills/cost-tracker/scripts/dashboard.js"

The dashboard includes:

  • KPI cards: Total spend, today, 7-day, 30-day, cache efficiency, avg per session
  • Model comparison: What the same work would cost on Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku
  • Charts: Daily spend (color-coded by threshold), cost by day of week, sessions per day, cumulative spend
  • Session table: Searchable, filterable by cost range, sortable by date or cost, with session summaries
  • Cost amortization: Sessions spanning multiple days have costs distributed evenly across active days

Optional: specify a custom output path:

node "${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/skills/cost-tracker/scripts/dashboard.js" /path/to/output.html

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
