staruml-mdj-statechart

staruml-mdj-statechart is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from ChinaIceF/staruml-skills. It costs 74 tokens per session (3,005 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A tool for creating, inspecting, and changing StarUML statechart diagrams stored in .mdj files. Statecharts show how a system moves between states in response to events.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to add or change states, start and end points, transitions, triggers, and guards, or to inspect an existing state machine.
Why use it?
It avoids manually editing StarUML’s complex diagram data, which can easily break references and structure.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00074 $0.03005
Opus 5 $0.00037 $0.01503
Sonnet 5 $0.00015 $0.00601
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00300

Security

Grade A, and why

staruml-mdj-statechart scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 5 executable files (examples/python_api_example.py, staruml_state_tool/__init__.py, staruml_state_tool/cli.py, …), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

StarUML MDJ Statechart Skill

Purpose

This skill enables safe creation, inspection, and modification of UML Statechart Diagrams (State Machines) inside StarUML .mdj files via the staruml_state_tool package.

The .mdj format is a deeply nested JSON document with auto-generated IDs, $ref cross-references, _parent backlinks, ownedElements/regions/vertices/transitions containment arrays, source/target references, and view hierarchies (ownedViews, model, tail, head). Do not construct or edit these structures manually. Use the CLI or Python API instead.

This tool is statechart-only. It does not touch class diagrams or other UML diagram types.

When to Use This Skill

  • Create a new StarUML .mdj file with a state machine.
  • Add a UML state machine to an existing .mdj.
  • Add normal states, initial pseudostates, final states, and other pseudostates (choice, junction, fork, join, etc.).
  • Add transitions between states, with optional triggers and guards.
  • Edit an existing transition's guard, trigger, or kind.
  • Rename or remove states and transitions.
  • Inspect existing state machines: list states, transitions, guards, triggers.
  • Generate a statechart from a natural language description (book lifecycle, order flow, door controller, traffic light, etc.).

Do Not Use This Skill When

  • The task involves class diagrams, sequence diagrams, use case diagrams, activity diagrams, component diagrams, deployment diagrams, package diagrams, or object diagrams.
  • The task requires composite states, nested states, multi-region state machines, entry/do/exit activities, or transition effects/actions — these are not supported by the current tool API.
  • The task requires automatic layout or custom visual styling (font, color, line style, custom edge routing, custom state sizes) — the tool uses fixed defaults.
  • The .mdj file is corrupted and fails to parse.
  • The user only wants a textual explanation and does not need to generate or modify a .mdj file.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

staruml-mdj-statechart is a skill published in the GitHub repository ChinaIceF/staruml-skills (5 stars, last pushed 3mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 74 tokens to every session and 3,005 once invoked, about $0.0004 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
