memory-service: Skill for Claude Code

.skills/api-contract-change/SKILL.md

api-contract-change is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from chirino/memory-service. It costs 72 tokens per session (774 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A skill for changing API contracts, which are the agreed definitions of an API's operations, inputs, and outputs. It keeps REST, gRPC, generated clients, handlers, datastore queries, tests, and documentation aligned across the described surfaces.

In plain words
What is it for?
Adding or changing API operations, request or response fields, query parameters, OpenAPI files, or protobuf definitions. It also guides the related server, database, client, test, and documentation updates.
Why use it?
It reduces mismatches where an API definition changes but its implementations, clients, tests, or documentation do not.

Skill for Claude CodeCodex

Written for no agent in particular: nothing here depends on one.

This is chirino/memory-service's own configuration. It tells Claude Code and Codex how to work on memory-service itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything memory-service configures →

Needs its repository: it runs a file that does not travel with it, so clone the repository first. The line is ./java/mvnw -f java/pom.xml -pl quarkus/memory-service-rest-quarkus,spring/memory-service-rest-spring -am compile.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00072 $0.00774
Opus 5.5 $0.00029 $0.00310
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00014 $0.00155
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00077

Security

Grade A, and why

api-contract-change scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

API Contract Changes

contracts/ is the source of truth:

  • Agent REST API: contracts/openapi/openapi.yml
  • Admin REST API: contracts/openapi/openapi-admin.yml
  • gRPC (agent and admin services): contracts/protobuf/memory/v1/memory_service.proto

Describe behavior in the contract (field and operation descriptions), not in agent notes or prose docs.

1. Keep the four surfaces aligned

When you change an agent REST operation, check the matching agent gRPC, admin REST, and admin gRPC operations, and change each one where the operation makes sense there. If a surface intentionally differs, say why in the contract description or the enhancement doc.

For each changed operation, keep these in step:

  • The OpenAPI and protobuf contracts
  • Server handlers: internal/plugin/route/** (REST, wired through internal/cmd/serve/wrapper_routes.go) and internal/grpc/server.go
  • Datastore queries in all three stores (internal/plugin/store/{postgres,sqlite,mongo})
  • BDD coverage for REST and gRPC (see the go-bdd skill)
  • Site docs that show the operation

For conversation list, detail, or update changes, check both the public and the admin summary/detail payloads, filters, and mutation requests. Admin payloads may expose fields (such as clientId) that user-facing payloads must not.

2. Regenerate

task generate # everything: Go (oapi-codegen + protoc), frontends, Python stubs, formatting
go generate .   # Go only: internal/generated/{api,apiclient,admin,pb}

Don't edit generated code. The Java REST and gRPC clients are generated during the Maven build:

./java/mvnw -f java/pom.xml -pl quarkus/memory-service-rest-quarkus,spring/memory-service-rest-spring -am compile

After deleting or renaming protobuf messages, use clean compile so stale generated classes don't survive.

OpenAPI generator traps are commented next to the schemas they affect in openapi.yml (for example searchType). Read those comments before restructuring a oneOf.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

api-contract-change is a skill published in the GitHub repository chirino/memory-service (12 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 72 tokens to every session and 774 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-26.
