odata

odata is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Ciltress/sap-abap-mcp. It costs 167 tokens per session (2,244 once invoked), scanned A, a copy of odata, MIT.

A guide for building and using OData services in ABAP. OData is a web format that lets applications expose and consume business data; the guide covers older V2 services and newer V4 services, including SAP’s RAP and SEGW approaches.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to expose ABAP data, create service definitions and bindings, add annotations for Fiori user interfaces, consume external OData services, and troubleshoot OData V2 or V4 issues.
Why use it?
It helps choose the right service-building approach and diagnose common service problems without having to learn the different ABAP patterns from scratch.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00167 $0.02244
Opus 5 $0.00084 $0.01122
Sonnet 5 $0.00033 $0.00449
Haiku 4.5 $0.00017 $0.00224

Security

Grade A, and why

odata scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

OData Service Development

Guide for creating and consuming OData services in ABAP, covering both RAP-based (V4/V2) and SEGW-based (V2) approaches.

Workflow

  1. Determine the user's goal:

    • Exposing a RAP BO as an OData service (recommended approach)
    • Creating a classic SEGW-based OData V2 service
    • Consuming an external OData service from ABAP
    • Adding OData annotations for Fiori UIs
    • Troubleshooting OData errors
  2. Identify the approach:

    • RAP-based service (preferred for ABAP Cloud)
    • SEGW-based service (classic, Standard ABAP only)
    • OData consumption (client proxy)
  3. Guide implementation following SAP best practices

Architecture Flow

CDS View Entity → Behavior Definition → Service Definition → Service Binding
                                                                    ↓
                                                              OData V4/V2 Endpoint

Service Definition

Exposes CDS entities and their behaviors as a named service:

@EndUserText.label: 'Travel Service'
define service ZUI_TRAVEL_O4 {
  expose ZC_Travel as Travel;
  expose ZC_Booking as Booking;
  expose I_Currency as Currency;
  expose I_Country as Country;
}
Key Rules
  • Expose projection CDS views (C_ prefix by convention), not root views
  • Include value help CDS views (I_* views) the UI needs
  • Alias names become OData entity set names
  • One service definition can be bound to multiple protocols

Service Binding

Binds a service definition to a specific OData protocol and provides a URL:

Binding Type Protocol Use Case
OData V4 - UI V4 SAP Fiori Elements apps
OData V2 - UI V2 Legacy Fiori apps, older frontends
OData V4 - Web API V4 API consumption (A2X scenarios)
OData V2 - Web API V2 API consumption (legacy)
InA - UI InA Analytical scenarios

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
