release-notes-writer

release-notes-writer is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from codebygarv/Ai-skills. It costs 27 tokens per session (339 once invoked), scanned B, original, MIT.

A writing tool that turns git commits, pull-request summaries, and changelogs into release notes for users or developers. Release notes describe what changed in a software product and why it matters.

In plain words
What is it for?
Writing weekly or major release announcements, app-store update text, developer changelogs, and internal product updates.
Why use it?
It removes the need to turn terse technical change descriptions into clear updates manually. It groups related changes by user impact and calls out fixes, new features, and changes that may require action.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00027 $0.00339
Opus 5 $0.00014 $0.00169
Sonnet 5 $0.00005 $0.00068
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00034

Measured 4d ago against content hash 6cff9275e0a4, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade B, and why

release-notes-writer scanned grade B with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Strips warnings and disclaimersmediumAnti-refusal

Omitting safety caveats hides risk from the user and is a common jailbreak preamble.

What it actually says

Purpose

Transform raw developer commit logs and PR titles into compelling, customer-centric release notes that highlight user value, new features, bug fixes, and breaking changes.

When to Use

  • Publishing weekly, monthly, or major version product releases.
  • Writing app store update descriptions and developer changelog entries.
  • Creating internal stakeholder release announcements.

What to Analyze

  1. Audience: End-users vs API developers vs Enterprise admins.
  2. Feature Highlights: Group related changes by customer impact rather than PR order.
  3. Language Translation: Convert jargon (e.g. refactor(auth): fix token race condition) into user value ("Resolved an issue where users were occasionally logged out on mobile").
  4. Breaking Changes: Clear migration callouts with bold warnings and code diffs.
  5. Call to Action: Links to documentation, updated SDK versions, or tutorial videos.

Output Format

  • Release Title & Version: e.g., v2.4.0 — Lightning Fast Search & Dark Mode.
  • Hero Summary: 2 sentences on the biggest advancement.
  • Categorized Sections: 🚀 New Features, ⚡ Performance Improvements, 🐛 Bug Fixes, ⚠️ Breaking Changes.
  • Contributor Shoutouts: Thanking external community contributors.

Avoid

  • Copy-pasting raw git commit hashes and messages ("fix lint", "wip").
  • Burying breaking changes at the very bottom without warnings.
Files

What ships with it

2 files beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
