frontend-design

A design and implementation guide for building distinctive, production-ready web interfaces. It covers visual direction, typography, colors, layout, and technical quality.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when creating web pages, components, or applications. It guides decisions about the audience, purpose, visual tone, differentiation, fonts, colors, and CSS organization.
Why use it?
It helps turn a vague interface request into a coherent visual system instead of an unplanned collection of generic components.

Made for: Claude Code, Codex.

Per session 32 Skills are progressive disclosure: only the name and description are preloaded; the body loads when the skill is used.
When invoked 409 The whole file, excluding the scripts and references it only reads on demand.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00032 $0.00409
Opus 5 $0.00016 $0.00204
Sonnet 5 $0.00006 $0.00082
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00041

Security

Grade A, and why

frontend-design scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 2 executable files (scripts/last-commits.sh, scripts/top-contributors.sh), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

This skill guides creation of distinctive, production-grade frontend interfaces that avoid generic "AI slop" aesthetics.

Design Thinking

Before coding, understand the context and commit to a BOLD aesthetic direction:

  • Purpose: What problem does this interface solve? Who uses it?
  • Tone: Pick an extreme: brutally minimal, maximalist chaos, retro-futuristic, organic/natural, luxury/refined, etc. There are so many flavors to choose from.
  • Constraints: Technical requirements (framework, performance, accessibility).
  • Differentiation: What makes this UNFORGETTABLE? What's the one thing someone will remember?

CRITICAL: Choose a clear conceptual direction and execute it with precision.

Then implement working code that is:

  • Production-grade and functional
  • Visually striking and memorable
  • Cohesive with a clear aesthetic point-of-view
  • Meticulously refined in every detail

Frontend Aesthetics Guidelines

Focus on:

  • Typography: Choose fonts that are beautiful, unique, and interesting. Avoid generic fonts like Arial and Inter.
  • Color & Theme: Commit to a cohesive aesthetic. Use CSS variables for consistency. Dominant colors with sharp accents outperform timid, evenly-distributed palettes.
  • Motion: Use animations for effects and micro-interactions.
  • Spatial Composition: Unexpected layouts. Asymmetry. Overlap. Diagonal flow. Grid-breaking elements. Generous negative space OR controlled density.
  • Backgrounds & Visual Details: Create atmosphere and depth rather than defaulting to solid colors.

NEVER use generic AI-generated aesthetics like overused font families, cliched color schemes (particularly purple gradients on white backgrounds) and predictable layouts and component patterns.

Files

What ships with it

2 files beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

frontend-design is a skill published in the GitHub repository CodelyTV/agentic_programming-course (38 stars, last pushed 4mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 32 tokens to every session and 409 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
