knowledge-report

knowledge-report is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from cogni-work/insight-wave. It costs 222 tokens per session (3,521 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A research-report workflow that reads an existing knowledge base, writes a report, and adds that report back to the same knowledge base.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for producing reports from accumulated wiki research and depositing the results for future work.
Why use it?
It lets later reports build on earlier research while avoiding a direct self-reference in the new report's sources.

Skill for Claude CodeCodex

Installs and runs on its own, but its text points at files inside its plugin — anything it tells you to read at a ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT} path is only there once the plugin is installed. Installing the plugin gets both.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00222 $0.03521
Opus 5 $0.00111 $0.01760
Sonnet 5 $0.00044 $0.00704
Haiku 4.5 $0.00022 $0.00352

Security

Grade A, and why

knowledge-report scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Knowledge Report

Compose a report from the accumulated knowledge in a bound cogni-knowledge base, then deposit the new report back into the same wiki. This is the wiki-roundtrip primitive — the second-order loop that proves knowledge compounds: a wiki-mode research run reads what knowledge-research filed, and its own findings join the same wiki for the next reader.

This skill is a thin orchestrator. Three pieces of value-add over a raw cogni-research + cogni-wiki chain:

  1. Binding-aware wiki path resolution — no --wiki-root from the user; read it from binding.json.
  2. Cycle-guard — refuses to deposit when the new project's wiki citations form a direct self-cycle (it would be reading its own past deposit as new evidence).
  3. Live report_source in the binding — the deposited project is recorded with wiki or hybrid (whichever cogni-research actually ran), not a hard-coded web.

Read ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/references/differentiation-thesis.md once per session to anchor on the accumulation thesis; read ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/references/delegation-contract.md to remember the delegation boundary.

When to run

  • User asks for a report composed from an existing knowledge base — "what do we know about X?", "summarise the EU AI Act base on Article 6", "roundtrip report on foundation models"
  • User wants the second-order loop: a new research run that reads what previous runs filed AND adds its own findings to the same wiki
  • User explicitly invokes /cogni-knowledge:knowledge-report

Never run when

  • No binding.json exists at the resolved knowledge root — route the user to /cogni-knowledge:knowledge-setup first
  • The knowledge base is empty (zero entries in research_projects[]) — point the user at /cogni-knowledge:knowledge-research instead; there is nothing to read yet
  • The user wants a one-shot research report with no persistence — cogni-research:research-setup directly is the right primitive

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

knowledge-report is a skill published in the GitHub repository cogni-work/insight-wave (12 stars, last pushed today), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 222 tokens to every session and 3,521 once invoked, about $0.0011 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
