orchardcore-azure-data-protection

orchardcore-azure-data-protection is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from CrestApps/CrestApps.AgentSkills. It costs 168 tokens per session (1,287 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide for storing ASP.NET Core data-protection keys in Azure Blob Storage so multiple Orchard Core servers can share them.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to configure Azure Blob Storage for key rings, isolate keys by tenant, and support load-balanced or scaled-out deployments.
Why use it?
Shared keys prevent login cookies, form-protection tokens, and other protected data from failing when requests move between servers.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00168 $0.01287
Opus 5 $0.00084 $0.00643
Sonnet 5 $0.00034 $0.00257
Haiku 4.5 $0.00017 $0.00129

Security

Grade A, and why

orchardcore-azure-data-protection scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Orchard Core Azure Data Protection - Prompt Templates

Module Overview

The OrchardCore.DataProtection.Azure module enables storing ASP.NET Core Data Protection key rings in Azure Blob Storage. This is essential for load-balanced and multi-instance deployments where all instances must share the same key ring.

Data Protection is a core ASP.NET Core security mechanism used by Orchard Core to safeguard:

  • Authentication cookies
  • Anti-forgery tokens
  • Decryptable persisted secrets (e.g., SMTP credentials, excluding user passwords)
  • Temporary data (TempData)

Keys are automatically isolated per tenant within the configured container.

Configuration

Guidelines

  • Enable the OrchardCore.DataProtection.Azure feature.
  • Provide a valid Azure Storage account connection string.
  • The container name must be a valid DNS name and conform to Azure naming rules (lowercase only).
  • Set CreateContainer to true (default) to auto-create the container on startup.
  • This feature is critical for multi-instance deployments (load-balanced, scaled-out) where all instances must share the same data protection keys.
  • Without shared key storage, authentication cookies and anti-forgery tokens will fail across instances.

Configuration Properties

Property Description Default
ConnectionString Azure Storage account connection string (required). ""
ContainerName Azure Blob container name (lowercase, valid DNS name). "dataprotection"
BlobName Specific blob name for storing keys (optional, defaults to tenant-specific path). ""
CreateContainer Whether to auto-create the container if it doesn't exist. true

Basic Configuration

Add to appsettings.json:

{
  "OrchardCore": {
    "OrchardCore_DataProtection_Azure": {
      "ConnectionString": "DefaultEndpointsProtocol=https;AccountName=myaccount;AccountKey=mykey;EndpointSuffix=core.windows.net",
      "ContainerName": "dataprotection",
      "BlobName": "",
      "CreateContainer": true
    }
  }
}

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
