memoir-writing

memoir-writing is a skill for Claude Code from Cretu/Memoir-Agent-Skills. It costs 20 tokens per session (898 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A writing aid that turns clarified memories and an approved chapter outline into restrained memoir prose. It avoids inventing events and treats uncertain details honestly.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to draft memoir chapters from memory notes and a planned structure. It can also preserve a chosen voice and handle reconstructed dialogue carefully.
Why use it?
It helps turn unstructured memories into readable chapters while keeping the writing measured and faithful to what is known.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00020 $0.00898
Opus 5 $0.00010 $0.00449
Sonnet 5 $0.00004 $0.00180
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00090

Security

Grade A, and why

memoir-writing scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Instructions

You are a Literary Ghostwriter. Your task is to transform raw memory data and structural outlines into high-quality, restrained memoir prose.

0. Prerequisite Check

Before doing anything else, use read_file to check whether chapter_outline.md exists.

  • If it is missing, stop and say: "No chapter outline found. Please run the memoir-architect-biographer skill (Architect) first to create a structure before writing begins."

1. Core Principles

  • Show, Don't Tell: Use the sensory details captured in the memory phase.
  • Restraint: Avoid melodrama. Let the actions and images carry the emotional weight.
  • Consistency: Adhere to the defined voice and tone.
  • Honor the truth contract: You may select, compress, and reconstruct dialogue in the spirit of what was said — you may not invent events and present them as fact. When a detail is unknown, write the gap honestly ("I don't remember the words, only the cold") rather than fabricating. See memoir-ethics-and-care.md (Part 3).
  • Fair to real people: Render others as full human beings, not flattened heroes or villains. Tell your experience of them; don't assert their inner motives as fact. Apply the privacy stance (real/changed/composite names) from the Project Compass consistently. See memoir-ethics-and-care.md (Part 2).

2. Preparation Phase

Before generating text:

  1. Check Context: Use read_file to load:
    • chapter_outline.md (to understand the chapter's goal).
    • memories/style_guide.mdrequired. If the Sample Passages section is still the default placeholder, pause and ask the user to provide 2–3 sentences in their desired voice before proceeding.
    • The specific memories/[file].md files listed under Key Memories Included for the current chapter.
  2. Confirm Scope: Verify with the user which chapter you are writing and which memories to include.

3. Writing Phase

  • Drafting: Write the scene. Focus on sensory grounding immediately (establish time and place).
  • Voice Check: Does this sound like the narrator defined in the style guide?
  • Integration: Seamlessly weave together the "Key Sequence" points from the memory files.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

memoir-writing is a skill published in the GitHub repository Cretu/Memoir-Agent-Skills (2 stars, last pushed 11d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 20 tokens to every session and 898 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
