api-context

api-context is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from cyanheads/usda-mcp-server. It costs 79 tokens per session (11,090 once invoked), scanned A, a copy of api-context, Apache-2.0.

A reference for the Context object passed to every tool and resource handler in @cyanheads/mcp-ts-core. The object carries request identity, logging, storage, input collection, cancellation, and related request data.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when writing handlers that need logs, tenant-scoped storage, additional user input, request identifiers, or cancellation.
Why use it?
It clarifies which request information and services are available inside a handler. This prevents handlers from using the wrong logging or storage access pattern.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00079 $0.11090
Opus 5 $0.00039 $0.05545
Sonnet 5 $0.00016 $0.02218
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.01109

Security

Grade A, and why

api-context scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Overview

Every tool and resource handler receives a single Context (ctx) argument. It provides request identity, structured logging, tenant-scoped storage, multi-round-trip input collection, and cancellation — all auto-correlated to the current request.

The framework auto-instruments every handler call (OTel span, duration, payload metrics). Use ctx.log for domain-specific logging and ctx.state for storage inside handlers. Use the global logger and StorageService directly only in lifecycle/background code (setup(), services).

Context interface

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
