tech-advisor

tech-advisor is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from CyranoB/web-forager. It costs 35 tokens per session (606 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A research guide for choosing technology or judging whether one is ready to adopt. It uses current sources and separates product comparisons from readiness checks.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to compare products for a specific need, or assess one technology before adopting it.
Why use it?
It reduces the guesswork of choosing tools or deciding whether a technology is mature enough. The recommendation is based on recent evidence rather than assumptions.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00035 $0.00606
Opus 5 $0.00017 $0.00303
Sonnet 5 $0.00007 $0.00121
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00061

Security

Grade A, and why

tech-advisor scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 71 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Tech Advisor

Make a current, evidence-backed technology recommendation for a specific user or team.

Choose one mode

  • Maturity assessment: one technology is being considered for adoption. Read maturity-assessment.md completely, then follow it.
  • Product comparison: two or more products, or a product category, must be chosen for a concrete use case. Read product-comparison.md completely, then follow it.

Use maturity assessment for “is this ready?” and product comparison for “which should I choose?” If intent does not settle the mode, ask one focused question.

Tools and evidence

Use available web search and URL-fetch tools. Prefer callable names ending in duckduckgo_search and web_fetch; client-added prefixes vary, so inspect the tools in the session. Without session tools, run the packaged CLI in an isolated environment:

uvx --python '>=3.10,<3.14' web-forager search "your query" --max-results 8 --output-format json
uvx --python '>=3.10,<3.14' web-forager fetch "https://example.com" --format markdown

If uvx cannot run packaged search, use ddgs without touching the current project environment:

uv run --no-project --python '>=3.10,<3.14' --with 'ddgs>=9.5.2' python - <<'PY'
from ddgs import DDGS
results = DDGS().text(query="your query", max_results=8)
for r in results:
    print(r["title"], r["href"], r["body"])
PY

If packaged fetch fails, use Jina Reader:

curl -s "https://r.jina.ai/https://example.com"

The workflow requires both search and fetch. If either capability is unavailable, state what is missing instead of recommending from stale knowledge.

Technology changes quickly. Use [current year] in queries, verify the exact current model or version, and prefer recent first-party specifications plus current independent evidence. Label estimates and inference.

Shared quality bar

  • Read every source used for a material comparison or recommendation.
  • Match evidence to the user's region, constraints, and use case.
  • Include total cost and meaningful tradeoffs, not only headline specifications.
  • Cite material claims near the text they support.
  • Take a position when the evidence supports one; state what would change it.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

tech-advisor is a skill published in the GitHub repository CyranoB/web-forager (10 stars, last pushed 5d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 35 tokens to every session and 606 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
