StateLog

StateLog is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from danielmiessler/LifeOS. It costs 138 tokens per session (1,640 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A shorthand journal for recording personal state, such as mood, energy, sleep, relationships, finances, or exercise, using ratings from 1 to 5. It can also show the latest value for each area and how old that entry is.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps log a mood or daily state, check which areas are current or stale, and provide data for later comparisons such as mood and sleep.
Why use it?
Writing a full journal entry makes quick check-ins easy to skip. Short entries create a consistent record without adding ratings the person did not provide.

About the project

LifeOS is an AI-assisted personal operating system that records a person’s goals, values, context, and current situation to help move them toward a desired future state. It supports work such as building applications, starting businesses, and creative projects. Its catalogue entries extend the system through skills, hooks, agents, and commands.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00138 $0.01640
Opus 5.5 $0.00055 $0.00656
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00028 $0.00328
Haiku 4.5 $0.00014 $0.00164

Security

Grade A, and why

StateLog scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

StateLog

Contents: Ideal State · Intent Routing · The grammar · Data & Config · Tool contract · Gotchas · Examples

Two keystrokes to a durable journal entry. The user sends M2 on any channel; it lands timestamped in the state log and the statusline reflects it. The point is zero-friction capture of mood and state so correlations (mood vs sleep vs workouts) become computable later.

Ideal State

  • Every entry the user states lands in the log in one tool call and gets one short acknowledgment, with no follow-up questions or analysis.
  • Ratings come only from the user's own words; inferred events reset freshness counters and never write a rating.
  • A status read shows each dimension's latest value and age, and names what is stale or never logged in one line.
  • The journal stays the user's: it lives under LIFEOS/USER/STATE/ and never enters this skill or any public artifact.

Intent Routing

Intent Trigger File
Log A shorthand entry, "log my state/mood", "just worked out", "went for a walk" Intents/Log.md
Status "current state", "state check-in", "how am I tracking" Intents/Status.md
File Read when
Setup.md first-time setup, or Config.md is missing
EvalState.md checking the state-shorthand eval suite's latest scores (machine-owned, never hand-edited)

The grammar

<Letter><Digit 1-5> plus optional note (M2 slept badly). Bare W or K resets that freshness counter.

Letter Dimension Kind
H overall rating 1-5
M mood rating 1-5
E energy rating 1-5
S sleep rating 1-5
R relationships rating 1-5
F financial rating 1-5
C overall creativity rating 1-5
CF creative freedom rating 1-5
W workout freshness (days-since)
K walk freshness (days-since)
A affirmation freshness (days-since)

Scale (star-rating semantics, higher is better): 1 really bad · 2 bad · 3 fine (shown yellow, never treated as a crisis) · 4 and 5 the preferred range (shown green). The parser clamps 0/6-9 into range and preserves the raw value. Every dimension reads the same direction — there are no inverted dimensions.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

It adds 138 tokens to every session and 1,640 once invoked, about $0.0006 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-28.
