sdd-setup

sdd-setup is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from danweinerdev/claude-sdd-planner. It costs 47 tokens per session (736 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A setup procedure for spec-driven planning in a code repository. It creates planning configuration, folders for planning documents, ignore-file entries, and optional guidance for agents.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to initialize or configure planning in a repository or worktree, including its configuration and agent instructions.
Why use it?
It gives a repository a consistent place and structure for planning work before implementation begins.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00047 $0.00736
Opus 5 $0.00023 $0.00368
Sonnet 5 $0.00009 $0.00147
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00074

Security

Grade A, and why

sdd-setup scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Configure Spec-Driven Planning

Resources

Before opening shared/..., follow symlinks in this loaded file's path, then derive <plugin-root> from <plugin-root>/skills/<name>/SKILL.md; fallback search roots are repository/user .agents/ (including $HOME/.agents/plugins/*/), Codex ${CODEX_HOME:-$HOME/.codex}/plugins/cache/*/*/*/, and runtime-configured skill roots. Accept only a root containing this skill, shared/agent-runtime.md, and the matching plugin manifest; never use the working directory. Then read <plugin-root>/shared/agent-runtime.md, <plugin-root>/shared/path-resolution.md, <plugin-root>/shared/vcs-detection.md, <plugin-root>/shared/templates/agents-md-full.md, and <plugin-root>/shared/templates/agents-md-snippet.md.

Resource boundary: Read the plugin, all SKILL.md files, and shared/ resources in place. Never copy or symlink them into the working directory, target repository, or planning root. Only generated SDD outputs may be materialized from bundled resources.

Process

  1. Verify the sdd binary. Every skill drives the cross-platform sdd toolchain (validation, artifact writes, lifecycle transitions). Run sdd version and compare against the minSddVersion in the plugin manifest (plugin.json at the plugin root). If the binary is missing or below the floor, stop and report the exact remedy — the plugin never compiles, downloads, or installs anything:

    go install github.com/danweinerdev/claude-sdd-planner/v2/cmd/sdd@latest

  2. Determine the target directory. Use the user-provided path verbatim where possible; otherwise use the current directory. Stop for a bare git repository.

  3. Determine planningRoot: explicit user value, existing planning-config.json, inherited worktree value, then ".". Preserve the chosen value exactly in config; resolve relative paths only for filesystem operations.

  4. Write or preserve <target>/planning-config.json. Include optional title, and description only when requested.

  5. Create missing planning directories: Plans/, Research/, Brainstorm/, Specs/, Designs/, and Decisions/.

  6. Repository mappings and paths belong in planning-config.json; do not create a local companion config.

  7. Offer, but do not unprompted create, AGENTS.md guidance. Use the full template for a dedicated planning repository; append the snippet for an existing project. Preserve existing user instructions.

  8. Do not create Claude launchers, CLAUDE.md, .claude/ folders, plugin symlinks, or copies of the plugin, skills, or shared resources. The runtime discovers and reads the installed plugin through its own skill-discovery paths; setup writes only SDD configuration, artifact directories, ignore entries, and user-approved AGENTS.md guidance to the target.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
