sdd-validate

sdd-validate is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from danweinerdev/claude-sdd-planner. It costs 43 tokens per session (1,554 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A read-only checker for software-development planning records and related documents, including their structure, statuses, dependencies, identifiers, and completion evidence.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to validate a plan, audit whether claimed work has evidence, and check that decisions and dependencies remain consistent.
Why use it?
It finds inconsistent or incomplete planning records before implementation, handoff, or a status change.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00043 $0.01554
Opus 5 $0.00022 $0.00777
Sonnet 5 $0.00009 $0.00311
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00155

Security

Grade A, and why

sdd-validate scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Validate SDD Artifacts

Resources

Before opening shared/..., follow symlinks in this loaded file's path, then derive <plugin-root> from <plugin-root>/skills/<name>/SKILL.md; fallback search roots are repository/user .agents/ (including $HOME/.agents/plugins/*/), Codex ${CODEX_HOME:-$HOME/.codex}/plugins/cache/*/*/*/, and runtime-configured skill roots. Accept only a root containing this skill, shared/agent-runtime.md, and the matching plugin manifest; never use the working directory. Then read <plugin-root>/shared/agent-runtime.md and <plugin-root>/shared/path-resolution.md, and resolve every shared/<path> reference in this skill against <plugin-root>.

Resource boundary: Read the plugin, all SKILL.md files, and shared/ resources in place. Never copy or symlink them into the working directory, target repository, or planning root. Only generated SDD outputs may be materialized from bundled resources.

When to Use

Before implementation, before any completion transition, before handoff, or in CI. Read-only: validation never edits, moves, creates, or deletes artifacts and never changes a status — it reports exact findings for a lifecycle skill or user-authorized repair to address.

Process

1. Run the deterministic validator

From the target repository root:

sdd validate --format json

Pass --scope <planning-root-relative-path-or-artifact-name> when the user named a narrower scope. Scoped validation includes every discoverable artifact selected by that path/name and follows transitive explicit related links — a plan scope covers all plan-owned artifacts plus its governing related graph even when the scope names its README or one phase. Bare names that match multiple artifact roots are rejected as ambiguous; use the reported planning-root-relative path. JSON output lists the exact successfully parsed artifacts_in_scope; diagnostics for malformed files under the requested scope remain visible. Unresolved references remain diagnostics on the artifact that cites them; an existing but undiscoverable file is never claimed as validated.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

sdd-validate is a skill published in the GitHub repository danweinerdev/claude-sdd-planner (2 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 43 tokens to every session and 1,554 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
