office-thumbnail-skill

office-thumbnail-skill is a skill for OpenCode from darellchua2/opencode-config-template. It costs 45 tokens per session (691 once invoked), scanned B, original, Apache-2.0.

A tool that turns Word, PowerPoint, and Excel files into images or thumbnail grids for visual inspection. It can also convert Office files to PDF as an intermediate step.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create thumbnail overviews, render document pages or slides as images, and inspect the visual layout of Office files.
Why use it?
Office files are often easier to review visually as pages or slides than by reading their internal content.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00045 $0.00691
Opus 5 $0.00023 $0.00345
Sonnet 5 $0.00009 $0.00138
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00069

Security

Grade B, and why

office-thumbnail-skill scanned grade B with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 2 executable files (scripts/soffice.py, scripts/thumbnail.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Asks for rootmediumPrivilege escalation

A mod that escalates privileges can change anything on the machine, not only the project.

What I do

I convert Office files to images for visual analysis — thumbnail grids, individual page images, or PDF intermediates. This is the visual-review companion to the OOXML editing and slide-generation skills.

  • Thumbnail grids — multi-page Office files → single grid image for quick overview (thumbnail.py)
  • PDF conversion — Office file → PDF via headless LibreOffice (soffice.py)
  • Image conversion — PDF pages → individual JPEG/PNG images via Poppler

When to use me

Use this skill when the user wants:

  • "Show me thumbnails" / "visual analysis of this deck"
  • "Convert slides to images"
  • "Generate a visual grid for review"
  • Any task needing to visually inspect Office document pages

Also used internally by:

  • pptx-specialist-subagent Stage 5 (visual verification via image-analyzer-subagent) — renders each generated slide to PNG for vision-model sizing verification
  • code-review-subagent / uiux-reviewer-subagent — visual evidence capture

Prerequisites

  • LibreOffice (soffice) — headless PDF conversion
    sudo apt-get install libreoffice

  • Poppler (pdftoppm) — PDF to image conversion
    sudo apt-get install poppler-utils

  • Python 3.9+

Workflow

Thumbnail grid generation

python scripts/thumbnail.py presentation.pptx [output_prefix]
  • Creates thumbnails.jpg (or thumbnails-1.jpg, thumbnails-2.jpg for large decks)
  • Default: 5 columns, max 30 slides per grid (5×6)
  • Custom columns: --cols 4 (range 3-6)

Convert to PDF (intermediate)

python scripts/soffice.py --headless --convert-to pdf presentation.pptx

The soffice.py wrapper handles the AF_UNIX socket restriction in sandboxed VMs.

Convert PDF to images

pdftoppm -jpeg -r 150 presentation.pdf slide

Creates slide-1.jpg, slide-2.jpg, etc.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
