What is pptx-extract-template?

A tool that reads a PowerPoint presentation and saves its reusable visual design as a template. This includes items such as slide layouts, colours, fonts, and placeholder settings.

Use it to extract a template from a .pptx file, review what will be extracted first, and optionally generate previews.

It avoids rebuilding a presentation’s design by hand when you want to reuse its visual system in future decks.

Instructions

Phase 1: Locate the PowerPoint File

Parse the argument for a file path
If partial or just a filename, search in this order:
- ~/Downloads/
- Vault Attachments/ folder
- Current directory
Verify the file exists and has a .pptx extension
If not found, ask user for the correct path

Phase 2: Dry-Run Analysis

Run the extraction script in dry-run mode to show what will be extracted:

Review the output and present a summary to the user:

Number of slide masters and layouts
Theme colours and fonts
Notable layout names

Phase 3: Confirm Name and Tags

Use AskUserQuestion to confirm:
