http-cache-correctness

http-cache-correctness is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from dayfinggg/openai-codex-agent-skills. It costs 45 tokens per session (393 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide for checking HTTP caching, the reuse of responses by browsers, proxies, and applications. It covers headers and validators such as Cache-Control, Vary, and ETag.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to verify cache keys, freshness, revalidation, invalidation, Nginx cache behavior, authenticated responses, and changes to cache headers.
Why use it?
It prevents users from receiving stale, private, cross-tenant, or otherwise incorrect responses because a cache stored or reused the wrong representation.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00045 $0.00393
Opus 5.5 $0.00018 $0.00157
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00009 $0.00079
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00039

Security

Grade A, and why

http-cache-correctness scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Treat caching as a response-correctness contract.

  1. Identify every cache on the affected path, which one owns freshness, and the actual request and response headers. Establish whether a cache is private or shared and whether the response depends on identity, tenant, locale, encoding, or request parameters.
  2. Define the cache key and variants from verified response dependencies. Do not assume that adding a session identifier to a key is a sufficient or appropriate authorization design.
  3. Derive storage, freshness, and revalidation behavior from Cache-Control, validators, Vary, and supported implementation rules. Distinguish no-cache from no-store and private from shared-cache permission.
  4. For Nginx, distinguish bypassing a cached read from preventing storage of an upstream response. Inspect proxy_cache_bypass, proxy_no_cache, response-header handling, and any override of upstream instructions.
  5. Specify invalidation and stale-response behavior for writes, errors, and background refresh. Check that a cached error or stale success cannot conceal the changed contract.
  6. Verify a cold request, a hit, a changed representation, revalidation, and relevant authenticated or cross-tenant requests. Observe the actual body and headers rather than relying on a configuration that appears correct.
  7. Measure cache effectiveness only after correctness holds. Compare hit rate, origin work, and latency over equivalent traffic. Do not clear a shared cache merely to obtain a clean benchmark.

Keep existing policies and limits unless the task explicitly changes them. Never cache secrets or personalized output by applying a blanket public policy.

Read RFC 9111 and the exact implementation documentation governing the changed cache.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

http-cache-correctness is a skill published in the GitHub repository dayfinggg/openai-codex-agent-skills (8 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 45 tokens to every session and 393 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-30.
