python-change

python-change is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from dayfinggg/openai-codex-agent-skills. It costs 31 tokens per session (336 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide for implementing, fixing, and refactoring Python programs and packages while checking their environment, types, asynchronous behavior, resources, and tests.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to make Python application or library changes, fix defects, manage asynchronous cleanup, and run the project's configured formatting, linting, typing, and tests.
Why use it?
It helps preserve compatibility and correct handling of exceptions, cancellation, blocking work, files, connections, and shared state.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00031 $0.00336
Opus 5.5 $0.00012 $0.00134
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00006 $0.00067
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00034

Security

Grade A, and why

python-change scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Use the project environment and verify behavior on its supported Python versions.

  1. Read manifests, lockfiles, analysis settings, and test configuration. Identify the actual interpreter and existing environment manager. Do not mix system dependencies into the application environment.
  2. Find the changed contract and its callers. Inspect exceptions, result shapes, mutable state, and missing-value handling. Preserve external formats and minimum Python compatibility.
  3. For async changes, identify task ownership, cancellation, and cleanup. Do not swallow CancelledError through a broad handler. Preserve cancellation semantics after necessary cleanup.
  4. Check whether blocking clients run on the event loop. Use a supported async client or the project's existing mechanism for blocking work. Moving an operation to a thread does not automatically make it cancellable.
  5. Manage files, connections, and sessions with clear lifetimes. Check ORM-session scope and sharing between tasks. Do not change concurrency for hypothetical performance gains.
  6. Make the smallest change and run configured formatting, linting, typing, and relevant tests. For defects, exercise the regression and cleanup after failure.
  7. For packages, check the supported version matrix when API availability or packaging changes.

Do not introduce a package manager, framework, or stricter configuration without task justification. For Django, FastAPI, or SQLAlchemy, consult the changed behavior in the installed version's official documentation.

Verify task, timeout, and cancellation semantics against Python asyncio.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

python-change is a skill published in the GitHub repository dayfinggg/openai-codex-agent-skills (8 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 31 tokens to every session and 336 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-30.
