frontend-template: Skill for Codex

.cursor/skills/frontend-design-quality/SKILL.md

frontend-design-quality is a skill for Codex, Cursor from ddebixx/frontend-template. It costs 104 tokens per session (954 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A workflow for designing and reviewing user interfaces and visual frontend work. It covers layout, typography, color, responsive behavior, interaction, motion, accessibility, and the project's existing design language.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for pages, components, product interfaces, marketing sites, portfolios, and redesigns. It helps define a visual direction, inspect existing UI and assets, and add design-specific acceptance criteria.
Why use it?
It prevents visual design from being added as an afterthought or replaced with a generic component-library look. It makes the intended user experience and its design requirements explicit before implementation.

Skill for CodexCursor

This is ddebixx/frontend-template's own configuration. It tells Codex and Cursor how to work on frontend-template itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything frontend-template configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00104 $0.00954
Opus 5.5 $0.00042 $0.00382
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00021 $0.00191
Haiku 4.5 $0.00010 $0.00095

Measured 16d ago against content hash 8a17de4a9982, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

frontend-design-quality scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 16d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Frontend design quality

Treat design as a system of deliberate decisions, not decoration applied after implementation.

Workflow

  1. Inspect before designing

    • Read the current UI, component library, tokens, typography, assets, content, routes, and relevant project rules.
    • Reuse existing design language when it is intentional and coherent.
    • Do not force a default component-library aesthetic onto a project with a different visual identity.
  2. Identify the design type and user job

    • Product/app UI: prioritize comprehension, state clarity, density, and task completion.
    • Marketing/editorial: prioritize narrative, hierarchy, rhythm, and brand expression.
    • Portfolio/creative work: prioritize the work itself, art direction, pacing, and distinctive composition.
    • Data-heavy UI: prioritize scanability, comparison, and information hierarchy over decoration.
  3. Define a design direction before implementation

    • Add or update a Design direction section in the active specification.
    • State 3-5 concrete visual principles, not vague adjectives alone.
    • Define typography roles, spacing/rhythm, composition, color behavior, surface treatment, imagery, motion, and responsive intent.
    • When references are provided, extract principles from them. Do not clone their composition or identity.
    • Use references/design-principles.md to pressure-test the direction.
  4. Translate direction into acceptance criteria

    • Include observable design criteria: hierarchy, interaction, responsive behavior, focus states, content overflow, empty/loading/error states, and reduced-motion behavior where relevant.
    • Avoid criteria such as "looks modern" or "looks premium" without concrete evidence.
  5. Design with real constraints

    • Use realistic content lengths and actual data shapes when available.
    • Design all important states, not only the ideal screenshot.
    • Preserve semantic HTML, keyboard usability, contrast, focus visibility, and zoom behavior.
    • Prefer a small coherent set of visual rules over many ornamental effects.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
