simple-question

simple-question is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Deepank308/hermes-swe-agent. It costs 30 tokens per session (253 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A workflow for answering questions about a software project without changing its files. It requires investigating the ticket and codebase, then giving an evidence-based answer with relevant paths and configuration details.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to research code, configurations, documentation, errors, and data related to a question, then report findings in a Linear ticket.
Why use it?
It reduces guesswork when someone needs an explanation, clarification, or investigation rather than an implementation change.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00030 $0.00253
Opus 5 $0.00015 $0.00127
Sonnet 5 $0.00006 $0.00051
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00025

Measured 4d ago against content hash a8a3c1076996, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

simple-question scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Simple Question Workflow

Use this workflow for questions, clarifications, and information requests.

Important: This workflow does NOT create branches, commits, or PRs. Do NOT modify any files.

Phase 1: Investigate

  1. Read the ticket to understand exactly what is being asked.
  2. Search the codebase for relevant code, configurations, and documentation.
  3. Use MCP tools if needed for deeper investigation:
    • Sentry (via ToolSearch "+sentry") for error details and trends.
    • Metabase (via ToolSearch "+metabase") for data queries.
    • Database MCP tools for direct database queries.
  4. Gather enough context to give a thorough, accurate answer.

Phase 2: Answer

Output a clear, well-structured answer:

  • Answer the question directly upfront.
  • Include supporting evidence: code snippets, file paths (with line numbers), config values.
  • Use Linear-compatible markdown for formatting.
  • If the question reveals a bug or needed improvement, note it and suggest creating a separate ticket.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

simple-question is a skill published in the GitHub repository Deepank308/hermes-swe-agent (12 stars, last pushed 4mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 30 tokens to every session and 253 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
