deephaven-mcp: Skill for Claude Code

.agents/skills/check-deps-fresh/SKILL.md

check-deps-fresh is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from deephaven/deephaven-mcp. It costs 44 tokens per session (286 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A release and dependency check that freshly resolves the Python packages in a project, then runs type checking and tests.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it after changing dependencies or before a release. It reports the resolved versions and explains failures from dependency syncing, mypy, or pytest without changing code.
Why use it?
It catches dependency-resolution problems and failures caused by newly selected package versions before release or after dependency changes. It also separates resolver, type-checking, and test failures.

Written for no agent in particular: nothing here depends on one. Also seen: installed under .agents/ (shared by several agents).

This is deephaven/deephaven-mcp's own configuration. It tells Claude Code and Codex how to work on deephaven-mcp itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything deephaven-mcp configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00044 $0.00286
Opus 5 $0.00022 $0.00143
Sonnet 5 $0.00009 $0.00057
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00029

Security

Grade A, and why

check-deps-fresh scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Steps

  1. Run bash bin/check-deps-fresh.sh and report the output.
  2. Triage the result:
    • Exit 0 (success): summarize which versions of pydeephaven, deephaven-server, and deephaven-coreplus-client were resolved (extract from the uv pip list section).
    • sync failed: report the resolver error verbatim. Do not edit code.
    • mypy failed: list each error with file/line and a one-sentence root-cause hypothesis. Do not edit code yet — wait for the user to confirm before making fixes.
    • pytest failed: group failures by test file, show the first failure traceback, and propose a minimal hypothesis for each group. Do not edit code yet. Note: the script runs pytest with --no-cov; no coverage report is produced.
  3. End with a one-line verdict: PASS (with resolved versions) or FAIL: <stage> where <stage> is sync, mypy, or pytest.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
