devexpress-xaf-appearance is a skill for Claude Code from DevExpress/agent-skills. It costs 135 tokens per session (3,675 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A coding guide for changing the appearance and visibility of DevExpress XAF screens according to an object's state or other conditions.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to highlight records, disable controls, hide interface elements, and apply rules to list views, detail views, fields, actions, or layouts.
Why use it?
It avoids scattered custom UI code by showing how to express conditional colours, styles, enabled states, and visibility through XAF appearance rules.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00135 $0.03675
Opus 5.5 $0.00054 $0.01470
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00027 $0.00735
Haiku 4.5 $0.00014 $0.00367

Security

Grade A, and why

devexpress-xaf-appearance scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

DevExpress XAF — Conditional Appearance

Dynamic UI styling and element visibility based on business object state.

Prerequisites & Installation

NuGet Package

Install the platform-agnostic package (same for Blazor and WinForms — no platform-specific variants):

DevExpress.ExpressApp.ConditionalAppearance

Module Registration

Blazor — MySolution.Blazor.Server\Startup.cs:

using DevExpress.ExpressApp.ConditionalAppearance;

services.AddXaf(Configuration, builder => {
    builder.Modules
        .AddConditionalAppearance();
});

WinForms — MySolution.Win\Startup.cs:

using DevExpress.ExpressApp.ConditionalAppearance;

var builder = WinApplication.CreateBuilder();
builder.Modules
    .AddConditionalAppearance();

Using Statements for Business Classes

using DevExpress.ExpressApp.ConditionalAppearance; // AppearanceAttribute, enums
using DevExpress.ExpressApp.Editors;                // ViewItemVisibility enum

ORM Criteria Compatibility

Criteria strings in AppearanceAttribute use CriteriaOperator syntax, which is ORM-agnostic. Appearance rules themselves work identically with both XPO and EF Core. However:

  • XPO-specific criteria functions (e.g., expressions relying on [PersistentAlias]-decorated properties) evaluate correctly in XPO but may not translate for EF Core.
  • EF Core projects should verify complex criteria against the EF Core criteria translator if problems arise.
  • XAF-level functions such as CurrentUserId() and LocalDateTimeToday() work with both ORMs.
  • Avoid Delayed Properties and Free Joins in criteria — AppearanceController evaluates criteria during paint, which can cause UI flicker or corrupt control state in WinForms.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
