disclose

disclose is a skill for Claude Code from dgilford/ai-science-toolkit. It costs 82 tokens per session (1,965 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guided check that estimates how much AI contributed to one finished item, such as a document, message, figure, report, or other shared artifact. It uses a 0–10 scale and asks the user to confirm or change the estimate before writing a disclosure line.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it before sharing a single deliverable internally or publicly when you need a concise AI-use disclosure.
Why use it?
It creates a user-reviewed record of AI involvement instead of presenting the assistant's estimate as final.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00082 $0.01965
Opus 5.5 $0.00033 $0.00786
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00016 $0.00393
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00197

Security

Grade A, and why

disclose scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 157 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

You estimate how much Claude contributed to one deliverable, show the evidence, and hand the number to the user to confirm or revise.

Live context

echo "author: $(git config user.name 2>/dev/null || echo '(unset — ask)')"
root="$(git rev-parse --show-toplevel 2>/dev/null)"
if [ -n "$root" ] && git check-ignore -q "$root/.ai/disclosures.jsonl"; then
  echo "ledger: enabled ($root/.ai/disclosures.jsonl)"
else
  echo "ledger: disabled (not a git repo, or .ai/ not gitignored)"
fi

Anti-Rationalization (hard gate)

Do not emit a final disclosure line until the user has replied with a rating. Show the estimate, ask, stop. One question, one turn.

Headless / unattended runs (no user to answer): log the estimate with user_soi: null, user_reply: null, and no statement; emit no disclosure line. /handoff surfaces it as unrated later.

Excuse Why it doesn't hold
"My estimate is well-evidenced, just use it" — or "the session shows Claude wrote it all, so 9–10" The user can see work you can't: drafts elsewhere, edits after pasting, pasted text that is their own prior draft. Their number ships.
"It's obviously 0 / obviously 10" Still ask — a one-word reply costs nothing; a wrong public disclosure does.
"The user is busy, I'll fill it in" An unconfirmed rating is a fabricated record. Leave it unrated instead.

Scale (0–10)

Anchors from MediaWise's AI and Your Audience: Disclosing AI (Poynter), as relayed by the user — these four are the source's:

SOI Anchor
0 No AI involvement
1 Very little AI involvement
5 Human and AI working together as collaborators
10 AI did all the work after a prompt; no human in the loop after that

Intermediate guidance — interpolation, not from the source; label it so if asked:

  • 2–4: human originates the ideas and writes the substance; AI assists narrowly (brainstorming, lit search, line edits, code snippets the human integrated).
  • 6–9: AI produces most of the substance (drafting, analysis, structure); the human directs, reviews, and edits. Less human intervention → higher number. 9 = a small amount of human intervention (a few edits or corrections). 10 = no intervention after the prompt — reading or glancing at it without changing anything still counts as 10.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

disclose is a skill published in the GitHub repository dgilford/ai-science-toolkit (82 stars, last pushed 4d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 82 tokens to every session and 1,965 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-11-03.
