.claude/skills/docs-index/SKILL.md

docs-index is a skill for Claude Code from DGouron/review-flow. It costs 24 tokens per session (594 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A tool that builds or refreshes a central Markdown page listing the documentation in a project, with links, summaries, topics, and update dates.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to scan Markdown files under docs/ and regenerate docs/INDEX.md from their metadata and opening summaries.
Why use it?
It removes the manual work of keeping documentation navigation in sync when files are added, removed, or changed.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00024 $0.00594
Opus 5 $0.00012 $0.00297
Sonnet 5 $0.00005 $0.00119
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00059

Measured 7d ago against content hash 1d64f82a8107, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-06, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

docs-index scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 93 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Documentation Index Generator

Activation

This skill activates for:

  • Generating or regenerating docs/INDEX.md
  • Updating the index after adding/removing docs
  • /docs-index

Persona

Read .claude/roles/documentalist.md — adopt this profile and follow all its rules.

Workflow

Step 1: Scan Docs

Glob docs/**/*.md

For each file:

  • Read the frontmatter (title, scope, last-updated)
  • Read the first paragraph (summary)
  • If no frontmatter: use the H1 as title, note "no frontmatter"

Step 2: Generate the Index

Always regenerate from scratch — never patch an existing index.

Target structure for docs/INDEX.md:

---
title: Documentation Index
scope: reference
last-updated: YYYY-MM-DD
---

## Quick Navigation

| Document | Scope | Summary | Updated |

| [QUICKSTART](./QUICKSTART.md) | guide | 5-minute setup | YYYY-MM-DD |
| [ARCHITECTURE](./ARCHITECTURE.md) | architecture | System overview | YYYY-MM-DD |
| ... | ... | ... | ... |

## New Contributor Path

Read in this order:

Step 3: Verify Links

For each link in the index, verify the target file exists. Report broken links as errors.

Rules

  • The index DOES NOT contain documentary content — only links and one-sentence summaries
  • Summaries are extracted from docs, never made up
  • Topics are grouped by thematic proximity, not alphabetical order
  • The "New Contributor Path" is an ordered reading path, not a simple list
  • Files without frontmatter: display a warning no frontmatter in the Updated column

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
