sync

sync is a skill for Claude Code from digital-stoic-org/agent-skills. It costs 73 tokens per session (1,636 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A tool for saving the conversation's current ring state to a file. A ring is the conversation state used by this set of workflows; the first save creates or promotes its file, and later saves create checkpoints.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to promote an unsaved ring, checkpoint an existing ring, save ring state, or take the ring's writer token.
Why use it?
It prevents ring state from being lost when work needs to continue later. It also records the current state without using Git commands.

Runs only inside its plugin — its command needs a path that Claude Code sets for a plugin’s own hooks and for nothing else. Install the plugin, not this.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00073 $0.01636
Opus 5.5 $0.00029 $0.00654
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00015 $0.00327
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00164

Security

Grade A, and why

sync scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 73 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Sync

SYNC writes this conversation's own view of one ring to disk. First call on a ring with no file promotes it (inline → resumed); every later call checkpoints it. Format reference (cite by path, don't reopen it here): ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/references/ring-file.md.

Common rules (all ring skills)

Disk commands go through absolute paths and /usr/bin/find, /usr/bin/grep, or python3 ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/scripts/ring.py (every ring.py below means this) — bare find/grep are shimmed and fail silently. No git verb of any kind. No .bak files. A question to the human is posed in plain text, once, with A/B/C choices — never an interactive question tool.

Arguments

Argument Value Required Default
[slug] the ring to sync no the ring this conversation currently carries; ask if unknown or ambiguous
--dir absolute rings folder no dir of the ring's own file if it has one → dir: line of ${CLAUDE_PROJECT_DIR}/.claude/ring.local.md → cwd (realpath)
--verbose print the full rewritten sections + the ring.py scan result no off

Steps

  1. Resolve slug and dir per the tables above.
  2. Locate the file: glob ring-<slug>-llm.md at the root of <dir>; if absent there, glob <dir>/done/. Found in done/ → refuse (table below) — a parked/done ring is not sync's business, /open --resume reactivates it first. Promotion is only the case where the slug is absent from both locations.
  3. Refuse before writing — table below.
  4. This conversation's write token: reuse whatever token this conversation already holds — from an earlier /open --resume, an earlier /ring:sync call, or a promotion triggered by /open — and mint one only if it holds none yet. Format and precedence: ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/references/ring-file.md §2, carrier row — cited, not restated here.
  5. Compose and write — table below.
  6. python3 ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/scripts/ring.py scan <dir>. An anomaly on this ring is reported in the output, never repaired silently.
  7. Output — one sentence.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

sync is a skill published in the GitHub repository digital-stoic-org/agent-skills (20 stars, last pushed 2d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 73 tokens to every session and 1,636 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-25.
