creating-cqrs-query

creating-cqrs-query is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from djscheuf/agentic-dev-ecosystem-template. It costs 120 tokens per session (7,325 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide to adding a CQRS query to a .NET web API. CQRS separates operations that read data from operations that change it; this guide covers the query, handler, response, authorization, and tests.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for GET endpoints, searches, filtered or paginated lists, detail views, and other operations that retrieve data without changing it.
Why use it?
It provides a consistent way to implement read-only API operations across the project's layers. It helps keep retrieval, filtering, pagination, and access checks together.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00120 $0.07325
Opus 5.5 $0.00048 $0.02930
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00024 $0.01465
Haiku 4.5 $0.00012 $0.00732

Security

Grade A, and why

creating-cqrs-query scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 21d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Creating a New CQRS Query

Overview

This skill guides you through creating a new CQRS Query in the Tactic Management API. Queries represent read operations that retrieve data without modifying system state (GET endpoints).

When to use this skill:

  • Adding a new GET endpoint that retrieves data
  • Implementing list/search operations with filtering and pagination
  • Creating detail views for entities
  • Retrieving reference data or lookup tables
  • Any operation that reads from the database without changes

Architecture Context:

  • Pattern: CQRS (Command Query Responsibility Segregation) with MediatR
  • Stack: .NET 8, Entity Framework Core
  • Layers: API → Application → Domain → Infrastructure
  • Testing: BDD/GWT pattern with xUnit
  • Authorization: Read-based authorization service

Complete Implementation Checklist

Phase 1: Define Domain Models

1.1 Create Query Class

Location: src/api/src/TacticManagement.Application/Tactics/Queries/

Queries use the record pattern and implement IRequest<TResponse>:

using MediatR;
using TacticManagement.Application.Tactics.DTOs;

namespace TacticManagement.Application.Tactics.Queries;

/// <summary>
/// Query to retrieve [describe what data is retrieved].
/// </summary>
public record GetSomethingQuery(
    Guid Id,
    string UserId
) : IRequest<SomethingDto>;

Naming Convention:

  • Pattern: Get{Noun}Query or Get{Noun}{Qualifier}Query
  • Examples: GetTacticByIdQuery, GetUserTacticsQuery, GetTacticTypesQuery
  • Always include UserId for authorization
  • Include filter/pagination parameters as needed

Query Types:

Single entity retrieval:

public record GetTacticByIdQuery(
    Guid TacticId,
    string UserId
) : IRequest<TacticDetailDto>;

List with filtering and pagination:

public record GetUserTacticsQuery(
    string UserId,
    string? Term,              // Search term
    string? Status, // Filter by status
    List<int>? TacticTypeIds, // Filter by types
    int Page, // Page number (1-based)
    int PageSize, // Items per page
    string SortBy,             // Sort field
    string SortOrder // "asc" or "desc"
) : IRequest<PaginatedResponseDto<TacticListItemDto>>;

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

creating-cqrs-query is a skill published in the GitHub repository djscheuf/agentic-dev-ecosystem-template (12 stars, last pushed 20d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 120 tokens to every session and 7,325 once invoked, about $0.0005 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-02.
