branch-done

A Git cleanup workflow for deleting the current feature branch and returning to the project's base branch after a pull request is opened.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it after opening a pull request when you want to switch back to the base branch and remove the finished feature branch.
Why use it?
It removes an old local branch and updates the main line of work without requiring you to remember the branch-selection and checkout steps.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00100 $0.00470
Opus 5 $0.00050 $0.00235
Sonnet 5 $0.00020 $0.00094
Haiku 4.5 $0.00010 $0.00047

Measured 2d ago against content hash 6ba4239c8aaa, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

branch-done scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Branch Done

After opening a PR, delete the current feature branch and switch back to the base branch.

When to apply

Cleaning up the main checkout after opening a PR. Do not apply inside a worktree — that is worktree-done.

Steps

  1. Record the current branch name: git rev-parse --abbrev-ref HEAD.
  2. Determine the base branch:
    • If a dev branch exists locally or on the remote (git show-ref --verify --quiet refs/heads/dev or refs/remotes/origin/dev), the base is always dev. Stop here — do not fall through, whatever origin/HEAD points at.
    • Otherwise try git symbolic-ref refs/remotes/origin/HEAD and strip the refs/remotes/origin/ prefix.
    • If that fails, use the first of main, master that exists locally (git show-ref --verify --quiet refs/heads/<name>).
    • If none exist, stop and ask the user which branch is the base.
  3. If the current branch is the base branch (or is itself dev, main, or master), stop and notify the user — nothing to clean up.
  4. Checkout the base branch and pull latest:
    git checkout <base branch> && git pull

  5. Delete the previous feature branch locally:
    git branch -D <recorded branch>

  6. Confirm in one line: Cleaned up → back on <base branch>, deleted <branch>

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

branch-done is a skill published in the GitHub repository dkmqflx/git-workflow-plugin (1 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 100 tokens to every session and 470 once invoked, about $0.0005 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
