Getting it into your agent
One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

| Fable 5.1 | $0.00000 | $0.02266 |

Grade A, and why
irs-tax-calculator scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Nothing flagged
None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.
How it starts
The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 151 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.
IRS Tax Calculator
Teaches the agent when and how to call the irs-taxpayer-mcp MCP server: a deterministic, local-only tax
estimation engine covering federal and state individual income tax for TY2024 through TY2026. The engine makes
no network calls and stores no taxpayer data; see Privacy and boundaries below.
Needs access to
This skill requires the irs-taxpayer-mcp MCP server. If it is not already connected, add it:
{
"mcpServers": {
"irs-taxpayer": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "irs-taxpayer-mcp"]
}
}
}
No API key, login, or account is required. The server runs entirely on the user's machine.
Privacy and boundaries (tell the user this before calculating)
- The engine performs no runtime network requests and persists no taxpayer data between calls.
- Facts the user types into this conversation are still processed by the agent's own model provider. If the
user needs fully local handling, point them to the direct CLI instead:
npm install --global irs-taxpayer-mcp, thenirs-taxpayer-mcp intake --output taxpayer-facts.jsonandirs-taxpayer-mcp plan --facts taxpayer-facts.json. - It is an estimation and planning tool, not tax preparation or filing software. It does not generate, sign, or transmit a return.
- State numeric estimates only exist for an explicit tax-year profile. Unsupported state/year/filing-status combinations return an error instead of a rough guess ("fail closed"). Always check the tool's response for an error before presenting a number.
- Always include the tool's own disclaimer text in your answer to the user; do not strip it out.
How to choose a tool
Start broad, then go deep. Pick ONE of these three entry points based on what the user actually asked:
- One-off calculation ("how much federal tax on $150k MFJ?"): call the single matching tool directly from the category tables below.
- "Give me a full picture" / "estimate my refund" / "build me a tax plan": call
generate_tax_planfirst. It returns structured results, the assumptions it made, official IRS/SSA sources, a calculation trace, and the exact boundaries of what it did not model. Use itsassumptionsandboundariesfields to tell the user what to double-check. - Something not covered below: call
lookup_tax_ruleor readreference/tool-catalog.mdfor the full 45-tool list with one-line descriptions, then pick the closest match.
What ships with it
5 files beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

irs-tax-calculator is a skill published in the GitHub repository dma9527/irs-taxpayer-mcp (13 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 2,266 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-31.
