decant: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/api-route-change/SKILL.md

api-route-change is a skill for Claude Code from dosu-ai/decant. It costs 69 tokens per session (442 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A set of instructions for changing an HTTP API route served by Decant. An API route is a web address that software calls to request data or perform an action, including its inputs, responses, limits, and live event messages.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when adding, removing, or changing a route, its parameters or status codes, its response format, or its server-sent events.
Why use it?
It keeps the route implementation, documentation, generated API description, user interface callers, and tests in agreement. This helps prevent clients from receiving an undocumented or unexpectedly truncated response.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00069 $0.00442
Opus 5.5 $0.00028 $0.00177
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00014 $0.00088
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00044

Security

Grade A, and why

api-route-change scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 28d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Change a serve API route

AGENTS.md invariant 7: the serve routes are a documented local API. These four move together in one change:

  1. The handler and its entry in the route table (src/server/routes.ts), plus the path manifest in src/route-paths.ts.
  2. docs/api/openapi.yaml, the source contract. /api/openapi.json is its runtime representation, so a missing or stale entry is a user-visible bug.
  3. docs/api/routes.md, the prose guide (access control, archive semantics, SSE events).
  4. Contract tests in test/api-contract.test.ts and test/server-routes.test.ts (which pins the route table to the OpenAPI document), plus behavior tests in the relevant test/server*.test.ts file.

Checks before changing semantics

  • Find every UI caller: grep src/ui/ for the path (views live in src/ui/views/). A new default limit or a narrower response can silently truncate what a page renders.
  • Keep core modules print-free: the handler shapes HTTP, while queries and stats stay in their modules.
  • Non-loopback serving needs explicit trusted peers. Host and Origin checks are defense in depth, not authentication; do not weaken either.
  • No outbound network calls. The only runtime networking is the local server.

Manual smoke

Use a scratch archive and a loopback port:

DECANT_DB=/tmp/decant-api.db bun run src/cli.ts --no-sync serve --no-open --port 43111

Done means bun test, bunx tsc --noEmit, and bunx biome check . pass.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
