apple-browsers: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/ddg-design-system/SKILL.md

ddg-design-system is a skill for Claude Code from duckduckgo/apple-browsers. It costs 65 tokens per session (774 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A set of instructions for using the shared design system in iOS and macOS interfaces. A design system is a library of approved colors, fonts, icons, and reusable interface components.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when creating, changing, or reviewing Apple-platform screens, including typography, colors, icons, spacing, buttons, and other repeated styling.
Why use it?
It prevents agents from inventing inconsistent visual styles or assuming that a component exists. It directs them to check the repository and Figma design intent first.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00065 $0.00774
Opus 5.5 $0.00026 $0.00310
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00013 $0.00155
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00077

Measured 14d ago against content hash b0eba0431ae3, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

ddg-design-system scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 14d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 67 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Design system (DRK)

Figma defines the design intent. The code in SharedPackages/Infrastructure/DesignResourcesKit, SharedPackages/Infrastructure/DesignResourcesKitIcons, SharedPackages/UIComponents and, on iOS, iOS/LocalPackages/DuckUI defines what is available; read it rather than assuming an API exists.

Lookup order

For every color, font, icon or piece of repeated styling, stop at the first step that fits:

  1. A DRK semantic color or typography style, or a DRKIcons asset in the matching size.
  2. A common component, modifier or preset in UIComponents, a button style in DuckUI (iOS), or an existing usage nearby. Look before writing your own buttons, shadows, borders, corner radii or spacing.
  3. Nothing fits: ask the user what to do. Figma and a designer should resolve the doubt.

SingleUseColor is the fallback when no semantic color fits. When you use one, say so explicitly to the user and recommend confirming with a designer that no semantic color applies.

Do

  • Use semantic colors (Color(designSystemColor:), UIColor(designSystemColor:), NSColor(designSystemColor:)) and keep the screen's palette wiring and light/dark behavior.
  • macOS: colors must follow live theme changes. Read references/macos-theming.md before touching colors.
  • iOS: use DRK typography (UIFont.daxBodyRegular(), .daxTitle1() and similar) and keep Dynamic Type working; fix layouts for larger text rather than disabling it. macOS: DRK typography is iOS only, so follow the feature's existing conventions.
  • Prefer system components when they meet the design.

Don't

  • Use baseColor: initializers, hex or RGB literals, or new color assets in the apps. They bypass palettes and dark mode.
  • Duplicate a DRKIcons icon in app assets or swap it for a lookalike SF Symbol.
  • Replace intentional platform, feature or branding differences with the nearest token just to remove literals, or restyle unrelated UI during a focused change.
  • Add speculative abstractions. Extract shared code when a pattern actually repeats.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
