apple-browsers: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/verify-ios/SKILL.md

verify-ios is a skill for Claude Code from duckduckgo/apple-browsers. It costs 79 tokens per session (4,186 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

An iOS app verification skill for the DuckDuckGo browser. It runs a short, user-like check on dedicated iPhone and iPad simulators and saves repeatable evidence, including screenshots and recorded events.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps verify interface changes on both device types, compare visible results, check interactions, and clean up after the test.
Why use it?
It checks that an iOS change works in the built app rather than only passing code-level tests, and creates evidence that can be attached to a pull request.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00079 $0.04186
Opus 5.5 $0.00032 $0.01674
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00016 $0.00837
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00419

Security

Grade A, and why

verify-ios scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 23 executable files (examples/t1_launch_doctor.py, examples/t10_capture_conditions.py, examples/t2_address_bar.py, …), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

verify-ios

Proves iOS behavior in the real app. You write a proof: a short Python file for this one change, saved with its evidence and never committed. prove checks it, runs it on each device, captures evidence, and always cleans up.

V=.claude/skills/verify-ios/bin/verify-ios # from the worktree root; every example below uses $V

How it gets used. Only when someone asks for it: agents never pick it on their own (disable-model-invocation), and nothing in the repo's agent instructions points to it. With AStack's auto, name it when you start, for example "/auto fix … and use verify-ios to verify" (auto honours an explicitly named driver). Outside auto, invoke /verify-ios directly.

Before writing a proof, read the feature files in features/ for what you are changing: they list the real ids, the iPhone/iPad differences and the app quirks that make a naive proof fail.

Layers

proof (Python, throwaway, in the evidence folder)
  └─ library lib/verify_ios: steps.py (DuckDuckGo steps), harness.py (the `ios` handle, assertions, prove)
       ├─ driver.py → runner/ (Swift XCUITest runner, generic: find, tap, type, wait, alert…) → the app's UI
       └─ web.py → the app's AutomationServer → page content (read-back and setup only)
bin/verify-ios: command line over the same library, for setup and for exploring by hand

Only driver.py knows how the UI is driven. A different driver means a new class with the same methods, which must pass tests/must_fail.py before it is used.

Check it works here

$V selftest # both devices; --devices iphone for a quicker check

Sets up the simulators, builds the app and runner if the build isn't current (a first build takes 3–20 minutes), runs the tool's tests, the "must fail" trust checks and one worked proof on each device, and confirms nothing was left running. Ends with "ok": true and the report paths, or names the step that failed and why. Run it on a new Mac, a new checkout, or after an Xcode update.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
