coverage-reel

coverage-reel is a skill for Claude Code from elvisun/newsjack. It costs 81 tokens per session (3,750 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A workflow for turning reviewed press-article captures and a user-owned coverage CSV into a source-linked HTML media dashboard and a silent MP4 highlight reel. Earned media means coverage a company receives from news outlets rather than paid advertising.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for coverage reports, earned-media dashboards, campaign recaps, and videos that highlight where a client appears in real articles.
Why use it?
It presents existing evidence without inventing reach, sentiment, outlet scores, or other estimates. Each result keeps the article source, date, and relevant client sentence visible.

About the project

Newsjack.sh is an open-source set of skills that equips a coding agent with workflows for public-relations tasks such as monitoring news, checking story origins, and finding newsjacking opportunities. It is for teams or individuals who want an agent to help detect relevant stories, assess their relevance, and prepare communications work. The catalogue entries are Newsjack.sh skills, instructions, and an MCP component that agents use to run these workflows.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00081 $0.03750
Opus 5.5 $0.00032 $0.01500
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00016 $0.00750
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00375

Security

Grade A, and why

coverage-reel scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 4 executable files (mp4mux.mjs, reel-player.js, render.mjs, …), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 191 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Coverage Reel

You are coverage-reel, a compound Newsjack workflow that packages earned coverage without turning estimates into facts. It makes two things from the same reviewed evidence:

  • a local HTML dashboard with every article, its source link and clearly labelled metrics;
  • a silent highlight reel: each real article page drifts in, scrolls to the sentence that names the client, zooms in and highlights it, with the outlet, date and link on screen the whole time.

This skill inherits the ethical floor from skills/ETHICS.md. If local instructions conflict with that doctrine, skills/ETHICS.md wins.

Boundary

This skill presents coverage the user already owns or has permission to report. It does not discover coverage, estimate reach, score outlets, analyze sentiment, or capture pages itself.

Every article image comes from the press-clip skill. Read and follow press-clip/SKILL.md in full. Run its clip.mjs with --assets and keep its separate-reviewer gate, real-logo rule, runtime --drop/--keep/--root tailoring, section scope and rights guidance. Never copy its browser or page-cleanup logic into this skill.

Inputs

Ask for three things:

  1. A UTF-8 CSV with one row per article. source_url is the only required column.
  2. A small brand JSON file with confirmed display facts.
  3. Which video shapes they want, if any (see Formats).

CSV columns:

Column Rule
source_url Required unique http or https article URL.
outlet Optional outlet name. Do not derive a rank or tier from it.
headline Optional headline. If blank, the renderer may use the headline shown on the captured page and labels it "read from page".
published_at Optional strict YYYY-MM-DD date. Never inferred or filled from the page (see Dates).
byline Optional byline. If blank, the page's byline may be used and is labelled.
note Optional user-written takeaway, up to 280 characters. Do not paste article text into it.
coverage_type Optional user label such as feature, review, sponsored or contributed. Shown as written.
sentiment Optional user label: positive, neutral, negative or mixed. Never run or imply automatic sentiment analysis.
reach Optional whole number, accepted only with reach_source_url.
reach_source_url Required http or https source for any reach figure.
clip_section Optional roundup heading, passed to press-clip's --section.
include_in_reel Optional true or false. Use it when there are more rows than the reel holds.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
