use-my-desktop

use-my-desktop is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from empir3hq/empir3-bridge. It costs 89 tokens per session (878 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A way to operate native desktop applications through the Empir3 Bridge, including listing and focusing windows, reading controls, clicking, typing, and taking screenshots. Native applications are programs installed on the computer rather than pages in a browser.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for tasks in Windows desktop applications, including selecting a window, interacting with controls, and working in a user-selected screen area.
Why use it?
It provides a controlled way to work with desktop software while checking each action and confirming that the device supports it. The description says full support is on Windows and that desktop controls require permission.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00089 $0.00878
Opus 5.5 $0.00036 $0.00351
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00018 $0.00176
Haiku 4.5 $0.00009 $0.00088

Security

Grade A, and why

use-my-desktop scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Use my desktop

Desktop tools are off by default and are the most powerful thing the Bridge can do. One observed action, one verification, every time.

1. Confirm support and permission

  1. bridge_control_catalog — read surfaces.desktop and each tool's supported / localMcpAvailable flags. Promise only what the catalog reports for this device. On macOS, say that native desktop control is not available and offer the browser instead.
  2. bridge_safety_status — desktop controls must be enabled. If they are not, ask the user to turn them on in the Bridge console (http://localhost:3006/console, Permissions pane). Do not substitute a shell command or any other route for a refused desktop action.
  3. First time on a machine, rehearse on http://localhost:3006/desktop-test before touching real windows.

2. The loop (Windows)

  1. Find the app: desktop_app with action:"list" or action:"is_running" plus a name; action:"launch" opens it. desktop_window with action:"list" returns window titles; use action:"focus" with the exact unique title that was returned. Ambiguous titles are refused.
  2. Observe: desktop_snapshot (foreground window by default, scope:"all-windows" for everything). It returns refs with roles, names and physical bounds. Refs expire after 30 seconds or on the next snapshot.
  3. Act once: desktop_click_ref with a fresh ref; desktop_type with the text and the field's ref; desktop_key with keys such as ["CTRL","A"] for shortcuts. Text goes through desktop_type, never through key chords.
  4. Verify with a new desktop_snapshot and read the field value back. A dispatched result is not proof the app changed.

Screenshots: desktop_monitors first, then desktop_screenshot with monitor, a region, or grid:true for coordinate labels. Coordinates are physical virtual-screen pixels and may be negative on monitors left of or above the primary. Never mix them with browser CSS pixels.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
