unifi-channel-planning

unifi-channel-planning is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from enuno/unifi-mcp-server. It costs 48 tokens per session (3,367 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A procedure for creating a WiFi channel plan from observations of nearby UniFi access points. A WiFi channel is a slice of radio spectrum; choosing channels with less overlap can reduce competing transmissions.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to select a site, inspect access points and their neighbors, propose per-radio channels, and optionally apply and validate those assignments.
Why use it?
It turns access-point neighbor data into a repeatable, explainable plan and includes checks before applying changes. This helps reduce channel conflicts without changing every radio blindly.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00048 $0.03367
Opus 5.5 $0.00019 $0.01347
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00010 $0.00673
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00337

Security

Grade A, and why

unifi-channel-planning scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

UniFi Channel Planning

Use this skill to produce a deterministic channel plan from MCP output.

Primary intent:

  • Reduce overlap and co-channel contention.
  • Keep assignments reproducible and explainable.
  • Provide safe change rollout with validation.

Required MCP Inputs

Tool Purpose
list_sites Select target site
list_devices_by_type Get managed AP inventory (type=uap)
list_site_internal_ap_neighbors_v2 Build internal AP-to-AP graph for one site in one call

Conditional / Optional MCP Inputs

Tool When to use
list_neighboring_aps Optional external RF tie-breaker or explanation; do not fetch by default
list_ap_neighbors_v2 Per-AP drill-down, debugging, or partial-result validation
get_device_details When radio configuration, current channel, width, or regulatory capabilities are not available from inventory

Optional execution tool:

Tool Purpose
set_ap_radio_channel Apply proposed channel per AP/radio

Data Contract For Planning

Expected fields from neighbor observations:

  • ap_mac: AP that observed the neighbor
  • bssid or mac: observed AP/BSSID identity
  • channel: observed neighbor channel number
  • signal: RSSI (dBm)
  • last_seen: freshness indicator
  • radio or band: required radio/band dimension (ng/2.4 GHz or na/5 GHz)
  • channel_width or ht: channel width, required when available for 5 GHz

If any field is missing:

  • Drop records without ap_mac, channel, or signal.
  • Do not use records without a band/radio dimension for channel assignment.
  • Keep records without width only for a conservative 20 MHz fallback and mark the affected recommendation medium-confidence.
  • Keep processing with partial data and log dropped count.

Correct Data Source Split (Critical)

Use two distinct datasets and do not mix them:

  1. Internal AP-to-AP graph (for channel assignment):
  • Primary source: list_site_internal_ap_neighbors_v2(site_id, start_ms, end_ms, min_rssi)
  • The tool already executes v2 per-AP neighbor queries and keeps only rows where neighbor mac is a managed AP MAC from the same site.
  • Optional fallback/debug: list_ap_neighbors_v2 per AP.
  • This is the authoritative input for "which site AP sees which other site AP and how strong".

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
