weather

A tool for retrieving current weather and short forecasts for a location. It reports conditions such as temperature, wind, humidity, and precipitation using Open-Meteo or wttr.in.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to check present conditions or forecasts for a city, including temperature, rain, snow, wind, and humidity.
Why use it?
It provides a quick way to answer current-weather and forecast questions without manually checking a weather website.

Per session 59 Skills are progressive disclosure: only the name and description are preloaded; the body loads when the skill is used.
When invoked 570 The whole file, excluding the scripts and references it only reads on demand.
Security scan A 1 finding. Scan, not verified.
Origin original No closer match found in the catalogue.
Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00059 $0.00570
Opus 5 $0.00030 $0.00285
Sonnet 5 $0.00012 $0.00114
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00057

Security

Grade A, and why

weather scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (weather.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Fetch current weather and forecasts via Open-Meteo (Python script) or wttr.in (curl).
pythonclaw/templates/skills/data/weather/SKILL.md · 69 lines

What it actually says

Weather Skill

Fetch current weather and forecasts via Open-Meteo (Python script) or wttr.in (curl).

When to Use

USE this skill when:

  • "What's the weather in Tokyo?"
  • "Will it rain in London today?"
  • "5-day forecast for New York"
  • "Temperature and wind in Paris"
  • "Is it snowing in Boston?"
  • User asks about temperature, humidity, wind, precipitation, or conditions for any place

When NOT to Use

DON'T use this skill when:

  • Historical weather data → use specialized historical APIs
  • Severe weather alerts or warnings → use official weather alert services
  • Detailed meteorological analysis → use professional weather tools

Usage/Commands

Option A — Python script (Open-Meteo)

python {skill_path}/weather.py "City Name" [options]

Options:

  • --forecast 3 — include N-day forecast (default: current only)
  • --format json — output as JSON (default: human-readable text)
  • --units imperial — use Fahrenheit/mph (default: metric)

Option B — wttr.in (curl, no Python needed)

# Current weather for a city
curl -s "wttr.in/CityName?format=%l%20%t%20%h%20%w%20%c"

# Human-readable output (default)
curl -s "wttr.in/CityName"

# JSON output
curl -s "wttr.in/CityName?format=j1"

# 3-day forecast
curl -s "wttr.in/CityName?2"

Examples

  • "What's the weather in Tokyo?" → python {skill_path}/weather.py "Tokyo" or curl -s wttr.in/Tokyo
  • "5-day forecast for New York" → python {skill_path}/weather.py "New York" --forecast 5
  • "Weather in Paris in Fahrenheit" → python {skill_path}/weather.py "Paris" --units imperial

Notes

  • Open-Meteo geocodes city names and returns temperature, humidity, wind, condition, and precipitation
  • wttr.in supports city names, airport codes, and lat/long in the URL path
  • Both approaches are free and require no API key
Files

What ships with it

1 file beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

weather is a skill published in the GitHub repository ericwang915/PythonClaw (41 stars, last pushed 24d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 59 tokens to every session and 570 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
