sc-protocol-security

sc-protocol-security is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from ersinkoc/security-check. It costs 21 tokens per session (1,839 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A security review skill for systems that exchange messages, including remote procedure calls, webhooks, queues, brokers, and streaming services. It checks whether messages are trusted, authorised, current, correctly ordered, and safely handled.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to review RPC and messaging protocols, webhook handlers, event systems, retries, acknowledgements, deduplication, and dead-letter handling.
Why use it?
A message that matches its expected format is not necessarily from a trusted sender or safe to process. This helps expose weaknesses across the full path from producer to transport to consumer.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00021 $0.01839
Opus 5.5 $0.00008 $0.00736
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00004 $0.00368
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00184

Security

Grade A, and why

sc-protocol-security scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

SC: Protocol, RPC, and Messaging Security

Purpose

Assess security across gRPC, Protobuf, GraphQL transports, custom protocols, queues, brokers, pub/sub, webhooks, event buses, and streaming RPC. Schema-valid messages are not automatically authentic, authorized, current, ordered, or safe.

Activation

Run when reconnaissance finds .proto or schema files, RPC registration, message consumers, publishers, webhook handlers, queues, topics, subscriptions, event envelopes, correlation IDs, acknowledgements, retry/dead-letter logic, or custom framing and decoding.

Phase 1: Discovery

Message lifecycle inventory

Draw producer -> transport or broker -> gateway -> consumer -> storage for every material message family. Record:

  • producer and authenticated channel identity;
  • envelope, headers, routing metadata, and payload schema;
  • authoritative tenant, user, resource, and operation fields;
  • parser versions and generated/custom decoders;
  • interceptor, middleware, consumer, and per-resource authorization;
  • acknowledgement, commit, retry, ordering, deduplication, and dead-letter behavior;
  • callback, reply, cancellation, and correlation lifecycle.

Registration and alternate paths

Compare unary and streaming RPCs, direct and gateway-transcoded routes, reflection and health services, normal and compatibility services, synchronous and queued operations, retries and replays, dead-letter consumers, administrative reprocessing, and migration paths.

Deployment facts

Identify broker ACLs, service identities, mesh policies, topic attachments, webhook ingress controls, signature secrets, and runtime routing that are visible in source. Keep decisive external facts as validation blockers rather than assuming secure or insecure deployment.

Phase 2: Vulnerability Hunting

Parsing and interpretation

  • Components disagree on duplicate fields, unknown fields, numeric width, normalization, compression, framing, or envelope/body precedence.
  • Missing discriminators, unknown enum values, zero values, or compatibility defaults select privileged behavior.
  • Multiple schema versions decode one wire representation into security-relevant different values.
  • A parser accepts trailing, truncated, ambiguous, or recursively nested data that downstream code interprets differently.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

sc-protocol-security is a skill published in the GitHub repository ersinkoc/security-check (83 stars, last pushed 17d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 21 tokens to every session and 1,839 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-16.
