prepare-release

prepare-release is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Espenandreass1/agentslice. It costs 22 tokens per session (205 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A workflow that turns independent quality-assurance results into a concise recommendation about releasing a software change. Quality assurance means checking that the change works and meets its requirements.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it after QA passes to summarize the outcome, link the evidence, write a short changelog entry, and request human release approval.
Why use it?
It separates test evidence from the decision to release and makes remaining limitations and risks visible. It does not deploy until a human explicitly approves the release.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00022 $0.00205
Opus 5 $0.00011 $0.00102
Sonnet 5 $0.00004 $0.00041
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00020

Measured today against content hash 62d1e1daf11e, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-06, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

prepare-release scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Prepare Release

Read

Verify the workspace and minimal preflight. Read the PR, QA result, current changelog, and exceptional records only when linked by the PR.

Guardrails

  • Require PASS or PASS WITH NOTES and explicit human release approval before deployment.
  • Keep outcome, risk, rollback, and release decision in the PR.
  • Add one short changelog entry only when users are affected. Create external release notes only for an external audience.

Steps

  1. State outcome, QA result, residual risk, and rollback in the PR.
  2. Obtain human release approval in the PR.
  3. Release/deploy only as authorized, then add the short changelog entry when applicable.

Output

Give PR link, QA result, residual risk, changelog link if created, and approval/deployment result. Do not repeat QA tables.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
