skill-boilerplate

skill-boilerplate is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from eugenepyvovarov/mcpbundler-agent-skills-marketplace. It costs 63 tokens per session (773 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide for creating new coding-agent skills with a shared local folder layout and required instructions for configuration, environment variables, tools, and dependencies.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when starting a skill and deciding where its mutable data, configuration, environment file, local programs, and dependencies should live.
Why use it?
It prevents each skill from storing local files and setup information in a different way. It also makes the expected project location and data directory clear.

Skill for Claude CodeCodex

Written for no agent in particular: nothing here depends on one. Also seen: mentions Codex.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00063 $0.00773
Opus 5 $0.00032 $0.00387
Sonnet 5 $0.00013 $0.00155
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00077

Measured 12d ago against content hash 94c48f4be2ac, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-12, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

skill-boilerplate scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 3 executable files (scripts/ensure_skill_data.py, scripts/install_utils.py, scripts/setup_envs.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Skill Boilerplate

Purpose

Document the mandatory local data layout and instructions to embed in new skills. This skill does not create any folders or files.

Determine project_root and data dir

  • Let be the folder containing SKILL.md.
  • If /.. is skills, guess project_root as two levels above the skills folder (i.e. /../../..).
  • This works when skills are stored as <project_root>//skills/, where can be .codex, .claude, .github, or any other parent.
  • Ask the user to confirm the guess; if it is wrong, request project_root.
  • If the skill is not under a skills directory, do not guess; ask the user for project_root.
  • Data dir: <project_root>/.skills-data//.

Mandatory SKILL.md section (copy into every new skill)

## Local data and env
- Store all mutable state under <project_root>/.skills-data/<skill-name>/.
- Keep config and registries in .skills-data/<skill-name>/ (for example: config.json, <feature>.json).
- Use .skills-data/<skill-name>/.env for SKILL_ROOT, SKILL_DATA_DIR, and any per-skill env keys.
- Install local tools into .skills-data/<skill-name>/bin and prepend it to PATH when needed.
- Install dependencies under .skills-data/<skill-name>/venv:
  - Python: .skills-data/<skill-name>/venv/python
  - Node: .skills-data/<skill-name>/venv/node_modules
  - Go: .skills-data/<skill-name>/venv/go (modcache, gocache)
  - PHP: .skills-data/<skill-name>/venv/php (cache, vendor)
- Write logs/cache/tmp under .skills-data/<skill-name>/logs, .skills-data/<skill-name>/cache, .skills-data/<skill-name>/tmp.
- Keep automation in <skill-root>/scripts and read SKILL_DATA_DIR (default to <project_root>/.skills-data/<skill-name>/).
- Do not write outside <skill-root> and <project_root>/.skills-data/<skill-name>/ unless the user requests it.

Environment variables

Write these keys into .skills-data//.env:

  • SKILL_ROOT: absolute path to the skill directory
  • SKILL_NAME: skill name
  • SKILL_DATA_ROOT: absolute path to <project_root>/.skills-data
  • SKILL_DATA_DIR: absolute path to <project_root>/.skills-data/

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
