.claude/skills/app-coding-standards/SKILL.md

app-coding-standards is a skill for Claude Code from Expensify/App. It costs 44 tokens per session (1,993 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of coding rules for Expensify’s React Native app, a framework for building mobile apps with JavaScript or TypeScript. The rules cover performance, consistency, React component structure, and user-interface code.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for writing, changing, or reviewing Expensify App code, including React components, state handling, styling, localization, and performance-sensitive lists.
Why use it?
It helps developers make changes that follow the app’s existing patterns and avoid common performance and maintenance problems.

About the project

Expensify/App is the source code for New Expensify, a financial collaboration application organized around chat. It is used by contributors building and testing the web, iOS, and Android versions of the application. Catalogue add-ons support development workflows such as mobile testing and agent-assisted work on the codebase.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00044 $0.01993
Opus 5.5 $0.00018 $0.00797
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00009 $0.00399
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00199

Measured yesterday against content hash 115842416e9e, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

app-coding-standards scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 92 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Expensify App Coding Standards

Coding standards for the Expensify App. Each standard is a standalone file in rules/ with reasoning, examples, and applicability conditions.

How to Use

This index lists rule titles only. Before writing or editing code, read the full rule file for every category that applies to the files you touch: each file holds the rule's conditions, exceptions, and the fix it expects.

Before committing, stage everything with git add -A. Then start a general-purpose subagent that follows .claude/agents/code-inline-reviewer.md and reviews git diff --cached $(git merge-base origin/main HEAD). CI runs the same check.

Categories

Category Prefix Focus

  • PERF-16 — Guard double initialization
  • PERF-17 — Pass raw source, index on demand (no pre-built digest)
  • PERF-18 — Use usePreMountDestination for RHP pre-mounting
  • PERF-19 — Collection selectors return only what the consumer uses
  • PERF-20 — Defer heavy work to happen after visual transitions
  • PERF-21 — List rows read their own Onyx data
  • PERF-22 — List rows subscribe to single collection members

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
